    Tennessee Tech Police Department: Crosswalk Safety: Be Alert, Be Seen, Be Safe

    In Tennessee, pedestrians have the right-of-way in marked crosswalks and at intersections—but safety is a shared responsibility. Always use crosswalks when available and obey pedestrian signals. Don’t suddenly step into traffic. Make eye contact with drivers before crossing. Drivers must yield to pedestrians in crosswalks and exercise due care to avoid collisions. Stay alert, heads up, phones down, and help keep everyone safe.

    TN Tech Police remind you to know the laws before you ride

    Know the law before you ride. In Tennessee, bicycles are vehicles and must follow the same traffic laws as cars. Ride on the right side of the road, use lights at night, use hand signals when turning, and obey traffic signals and stop signs. DriversĀ must give cyclists at least 3 feet when passing.

    Cyclists should wear a helmet, stay alert, share the road, and ride safely.

    Earth Science students gain hands-on learning through trip to Arizona

    Twelve Tennessee Tech Earth Sciences majors got to experience a 10-day field course that tested their geologic knowledge with hands-on learning. Students traveled to Petrified Forest National Park, Canyon de Chelly, Meteor Crater, the San Francisco Volcanic fields, Wupatki (Puebloan) National Monument, Sunset Crater National Park, Lowell Observatory, and the Grand Canyon. Activities on the trip included hiking the Grand Canyon, kayaking on the Colorado River, and climbing to over 12,000 feet on Mt. Humphreys.Ā  The trip was led by Tech faculty members Drs. Evan Hart and Lauren Michel and funded by the College of Arts & Sciences and the Department of Earth Sciences.

    While optional, these trainings are strongly encouraged for all university employees.

    Join the Center for Addiction Prevention and Support for our monthly coalition meeting. August 4th at 11am at 10th W. Broad Street, Cookeville, TN 38506.

    This month’s topic focuses on what comes next after recovery, equipping participants with the tools to maintain long-term recovery and navigate real-life challenges. Participants will learn to recognize common relapse triggers and early warning signs, understand the protective factors that strengthen stability, and begin developing a personalized prevention plan. Lunch will be served. Registration is not necessary, but preferred.

    The Crawford Alumni Center extends its gratitude and well wishes to Assistant Director Kelly Chambers-Mendiratta, who will depart at the end of this month to spend more time with her family.
    Kelly is a two-time Tech graduate who has served the university for nearly 20 years, including as an adjunct instructor, scholarship manager and in various roles within University Advancement.Ā Over the years, she has shared our alumni and donors’ stories in The Alumnus,Ā in the annual publicationsĀ GratitudeĀ andĀ Impact,Ā and across other platforms.
