    2022 Fall Celebration

    TN Tech College of Business will host the legendary Dick Vitale at the Fall Celebration on Thursday, October 28, at DelMonaco Winery. Following a college and NBA coaching career, Dick Vitale joined the ESPN network and has since become the game’s top analyst and ambassador. His thorough knowledge of basketball is brought forth in an enthusiastic, passionate, and sometimes controversial style. “Awesome, baby” and “diaper dandy” are just two of the many Vitale-isms to take a life of their own. He has helped raise over $130 million for cancer research through the V Foundation and established scholarships for many organizations. Advanced tickets are required. Students may purchase tickets for $15. Until October 13, faculty, staff, alums, and guests may purchase tickets for $75. Late registration tickets after October 13 will be $95.     The 2021-2022 Wings Up 100 roster is an elite group of 36 Tech researchers who brought in at least $100,000 in external funding for their research and activities during 2021-2022.

    Congratulations to these researchers who helped Tech set a new high in external funding.

    Evening of Excellence: 2022 Alumni Awards

    On November 5, the Alumni Association will recognize the following 2022 alumni award recipients:

      • Outstanding Young Alumnus Award: Ron H. R. Johnson, `08 English
      • Outstanding Service Award: Frank Omiyale, `08 marketing
      • Outstanding Philanthropy Award: J. Elizabeth Hendrix, `68 secondary education

      • Distinguished Alumni Award: Dr. Ellen J. Neufeldt, `91 marketing

  • Budget Office – November Training

    Budget Office training sessions for November are now scheduled if anyone is interested! Below is a brief description of each training:

    General Budget Training: This training helps provide a better understanding of the overall budgeting process and timelines from the university level. Other topics presented include information regarding budget revisions, revenues and expenses, budget monitoring, general guidelines, etc. This training is required for signature authority on budget revisions.

    Budget Banner Screen Training: This training focuses specifically on Banner screens frequently used for budgeting purposes. This is an optional training course.

    Budget Shadow System Training: This training focuses specifically on our Shadow System Template that can be used for reconciliation purposes. This is an optional training course.

    Position Control Budget Training: This training focuses specifically on topics related to position control including new position set ups, personnel action forms, budget revisions for permanent positions, how to verify permanent position funding, lapsed salary, etc. This is an optional training course.

    You must re-enroll in your medical FSA or L-FSA and DC-FSA each year and choose how much money you’ll put in your account during Annual Enrollment.

    Annual Civil & Environmental Engineering Homecoming Pig Roast

    The Civil & Environmental Engineering Department is hosting its 11th Annual Homecoming Pig Roast in collaboration with our ASCE chapter. We encourage all students & alumni to come out for food and fellowship!

    The Pig Roast will be the Friday of Homecoming weekend, November 4th. Dinner will be served from 5:30-7:30pm at the East part of the stadium just outside of the Steel Bridge shop.

    We will have cornhole and ASCE will be auctioning off some of their old trophies!

    Calling All Ladies in Civil Engineering! Annual group hike to Bee Rock!

    All Ladies in Civil Engineering (ALICE) will be hosting a group hike on October 15th where we will meet at 9:30 in the gravel parking lot across from Sherlock Park. We will carpool from there to Bee Rock. After hiking, a lunch will follow. All ladies who are majoring in Civil Engineering or who would like to major in Civil Engineering are welcome to attend. No hiking experience needed, just a good way to get outside and make friends outside of a school setting!

    General Complaint Reporting

    In addition to the Fraud, Waste, or Abuse reporting form, Tennessee Tech also has a form on Internal Audit’s website for confidentially reporting complaints about accounting, internal control, auditing matters, code of conduct, and other related issues that are NOT fraud, waste, or abuse. Complainants remain COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS to Internal Audit unless the last section of the form is completed. General complaints received on this form are routed to appropriate campus departments for follow-up.

    The form can be submitted online or completed, printed, and mailed to Internal Audit, PO Box 5154, Cookeville, TN 38505.

    TN Tech ASME Student Chapter Meeting

    Join TN Tech’s ASME Student Section at our next meeting on Thursday, October 6 at 11:00 am in Brown Hall 315. This week, we will host members of the mechanical engineering department faculty to talk about undergraduate research opportunities! This is a unique opportunity to hear about multiple areas of research available to undergrads and learn how you can get involved while still pursuing an bachelor’s degree. Attendance is open to anyone, but if you are a mechanical engineering major, you don’t want to miss this opportunity, no matter your grade.

    Alex McDonald Joins Rural Reimagined as Graduate Assistant

    Rural Reimagined (RR) is excited to announce and welcome Alex McDonald to The Center for Rural Innovation (TCRI) team. Alex is a graduate student working towards a Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. She assists TCRI with inferential statistics and evaluates the impact of community economic interventions within our service region. Regarding her internship, Alex says, “I am excited to be a part of a team working to help communities and to have the opportunity to put all my stats knowledge into practice. I’m grateful for the opportunity to get to work with this department and learn more about economic development.” Rural communities will always benefit from the meaningful contributions from various occupational and vocational fields. Like Alex, Rural Reimagined encourages other students to partner with us as we serve our rural communities in valuable and unique ways. Thank you, Alex! Wings up!
