Join the Sociology and Criminal Justice Club and the Peer Empowerment Program at our event “Criminal Minds” Fact or Fiction?” where we have assembled an expert panel to discuss the realities of the criminal justice system and cases of sexual assault, stalking and domestic violence. Our expert panel includes a forensic nurse, a sex crimes detective, a victim advocate, a professor AND a retired profiler!

    Bookstore’s Tech Trivia

    Monday – Thursday (9th – 12th) of Homecoming Week the Bookstore will be asking a daily trivia question about Tennessee Tech. Your answers can be submitted in the Bookstore, during store hours, at our trivia table. The correct answers will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Barnes & Noble gift card, that can be used in the Bookstore. The winner will be announced on Friday, Nov. 13th.

    Additional Safety Measures:

      • Medical Advisory Group

      • Face shields and gloves will be available for volunteers with higher contact positions, e.g. parking

     

      • Mandated temperature checks

     

      • Online ticket sales ONLY to manage/monitor capacity and to reduce cash handling

     

      • Limited stadium capacity to one-third

     

      • Stadium will be cleared following each individual game

     

      • Increased sanitation of high traffic venue areas

     

      • Plexiglass barriers on all concession areas

     

      • Reduced number of enclosed tents, limited capacity in remaining tents

     

      • Online volunteer trainings

     

      • New location and expedited volunteer check-in

     

      • #CKVLCares Care Packages for all volunteers (branded #maskyourmuzzle masks, hand sanitizers, drink, snack for your shift, and long sleeve event t-shirt)

     

      • Extra precautions are being taken to pair volunteers with those in their own households and allow for social distancing between/among volunteer teams throughout the event.

    In celebration of Native American History Month, visit the “Native American Information Hour” on November 10, 2020 at 11am on the first floor of the Roaden University Center. Native craft items: peace pipes, drums, dream catchers, war clubs, flutes and animal skins are among a few of the items on display. Ask questions and learn about our Native people. This event is sponsored by the Office of Multicultural Affairs and presented by Rick Moles, Troy Smith, and Chiricahua Apache Native Sayota Knight.

    Nominations Open for Awards to Honor Women’s Leadership and Equality at Tech!

    Tech’s Commission on the Status of Women seeks nominations (submit by Nov. 23) for two awards: 1) The Alison Piepmeier Outstanding Student Award – This award celebrates Piepmeier’s legacy of fierce feminism by recognizing an exceptional Tennessee Tech student whose research, activism and/or outreach advances gender equity. It acknowledges a student who shows a passion for learning, goes the extra mile to assist others, and contributes significantly to campus and/or the local community. Nominate here. 2) The CSW Excellence Award – This award is presented annually to an individual employed by Tennessee Tech University who has contributed significantly to gender equity. The award honors three qualities that characterize the tradition of women’s leadership at Tech: perseverance, generosity, and mentorship. The award celebrates the efforts of Tennessee Tech employees to provide ongoing leadership and mentoring for the campus community and work towards gender equity for all. Nominate here.     Out in Science, Engineering, Technology, and Mathematics (oSTEM) will have a meeting at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 5. You can attend in-person in Foster 220 or virtually via Zoom. We will be discussing our events for the rest of the semester including a couple of speakers we will be hosting, as well as holding elections for our Vice President position.     You are invited to join the Student Members of the American Chemical Society at a poster session on Friday, Nov. 6 in Stonecipher Lecture Hall from 5:30 – 7 p.m. This poster presentation event will showcase undergraduate research being done by several students in the chemistry department. You will have the chance to talk to students in a socially distant manner about their projects, as well as learn about funding opportunities available for undergraduate research in the chemistry department and university. Pre-packaged snacks and drinks will be served. All attendees must wear a mask and follow the social distancing guidelines. Questions can be sent to acarroll@tntech.edu.   • Pre-Proposals for NSF Major Research Instrumentation funding due November 13

    Reminder: Pre-proposals for NSF’s Major Research Instrumentation (MRI) funding program must be submitted as a single PDF document via the Office of Research email (research@tntech.edu) by noon, Fri., Nov. 13.  This program supports the acquisition or development of a multi-user research instrument.

    Tennessee Tech may submit or be included as a significantly funded subawardee in no more than two (2) Track 1 MRI proposals (requesting more than or equal to $100,000 and less than $1 million in funding) and no more than one (1) Track 2 MRI proposal (requesting more than or equal to $1 million and up to and including $4 million in funding). Therefore, a pre‐proposal is required to be submitted by all interested faculty and an internal review conducted to determine which proposals will be submitted to NSF. Note: Since inclusion as a subawardee count against these limits, contact the Office of Research if you plan to be a subawardee on another institution’s submission.
