Hey ladies, we will be having our Galentines event for delight on February 10th from 5-7PM in Oakley hall room 124. We will all be making our own bouquets and will have snacks! Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Recognizes Dr. Helen Hunt
Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Helen Hunt (Associate Professor of English and Director of the Women’s Center) for receiving Level 1 funding (up to $2,500) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Hunt proposed her project titled “We Persist: A Women and Gender Studies Seminar in Livingston, TN” which is a collaborative seminar between Tech’s Women and Gender Studies minor, Tech’s Women’s Center, and the Livingston Civic and Garden Club. Her seminar’s goals are “to increase understanding of women’s activist history in Tennessee, raise awareness of specific gender-based issues facing Overton County, and provide practical strategies to address these issues,” with the intended attendees being high school students and K-12 teachers. We congratulate Dr. Hunt and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

iMakerSpace Pancake Day–Today at Dead Hour
Come visit the iMakerSpace in Volpe Library 348 from 11am to 12pm on Feb. 9th to enjoy some pancakes and see some of the cool things the iMakerSpace has to offer! You will be able to design and “print” your own pancakes via the PancakeBots in the space!

Volunteers Needed Regional Science Olympiad Tournament 2-11-23
The Oakley STEM Center is now recruiting volunteers for the 2023 Regional Science Olympiad (SciOly) Tournament on Saturday, February 11th, 2023. As a volunteer, you’d be assisting coordinators of 46 (SciOly) events. Depending on the event, volunteers will assist with proctoring and grading exams, judging experiments and contraptions, recording time or measurements for moving events, direct participants between activities among other tasks that may come up.

Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, February 9, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Clement Hall 212, for this Purple Career Readiness Workshop! Are you wondering how to construct the ultimate resume? Be sure to attend this workshop where Mr. Russ Coughenour, Center for Career Development Director, will share with you the top ten tips on how to build that perfect resume!
This event is open to all students and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card with you to receive credit for attendance.

What is ESTAR Sanos (To Be Healthy) Outreach Program?
ESTAR Sanos is a unique health resource available through Tech’s Whitson-Hester School of Nursing to regional rural and Hispanic communities. The program started in 2020 with an award from the Rebecca Tolbert Faculty Research Program at the university.
Professor Melissa Geist, other faculty members, and future nursing professionals, on the ESTAR team secured grants from external resources. The funding provides not only access, but also health education, support, training, awareness, and resources to underserved groups.
“A major motivator for the initiative was Covid vaccine hesitancy experienced by the rural and Hispanic communities,” offered Melissa Geist, Professor of Nursing and practicing Pediatric and Family Nurse Practitioner. “The opportunity to provide necessary services, give children/families positive experiences, and introduce nursing students to real-world practice is invaluable – to us all.”

Employee Performance Evaluation Time is Here
Beginning this month, the HR department will provide mandatory performance evaluation training to all supervisors for staff positions and elective training to staff employees.
- Mandatory Supervisor Training will be assigned through the BeAware application in Tech Express. The training is self-paced, takes approximately one hour, and should be completed by March 31st.
- Elective Employee Training will be provided until April 13th via Microsoft Teams. Sign up for training here: https://go.tntech.edu/training
The training for supervisors and staff employees will include an overview of key changes to the performance evaluation form for 2023 that includes new sections covering the Wings Up Way and Training and Development.
Key Dates to Keep in Mind:
- Supervisors review job descriptions by February 28.
- Employees complete elective performance evaluation training by March 31st.
- Supervisors complete mandatory performance evaluation training by March 31st.
- Supervisors create a plan by March 31st.
- Employees complete their Self Evaluation by April 15th.
- Supervisors complete Employee’s Evaluation by May 1st.
- Reviewing Officers review Supervisor’s Evaluation by May 15
- Evaluation Review Meeting between Supervisor & Employee by May 31st.
- Employees Acknowledges Evaluation by May 31st.

Faculty-Led Program Abroad Workshop
Have you considered adding an international travel component to your course and taking a group of students abroad? Here at TTU, we send many faculty-led groups around the world every year to gain experiential learning and open student’s minds to a global perspective. If you would like to learn more about this opportunity, you should join us on Tuesday, February 21st from 11 am to 12 pm in the Provost’s Conference Room in Derryberry Hall for a Faculty-Led Program Abroad Workshop. Dr. Amy Miller will explain the application process and there will be experienced Faculty Leaders who will share their experiences and be able to answer any questions. Applications for Scholastic Research Award due by March 7
The Scholastic Research Award, presented by the University Research Advisory Committee, is a university-wide award for a single, significant and innovative work produced, published, performed or exhibited from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2022. Two awards, of $1,500 each, are available each year, with one reserved for tenure-track faculty and the other reserved for tenured faculty. Applications must be submitted electronically in a single PDF to jdicey@tntech.edu on or before March 7, 2023. Call for Proposals- OER training and stipend opportunity
Provost Bruce has expanded the OER (Open Educational Resources) program to save students money on textbooks. This cycle will involve prepping your course during the Spring and Summer and teaching the course with the new materials in the Fall and the TTU OER team will be supporting you through the entire process. Through the TTU OER program efforts, we have saved students over $250,000. This OER program offers stipends to selected faculty to transition their courses from traditional textbooks to zero-cost course materials. This program will help increase equity in access to quality, zero-cost educational materials. Faculty interested in receiving OER training and a stipend must submit an application proposal by March 15, 2023.
