The Spring Engineering Fair is 2 weeks away! Come see us on the third floor of the Roaden University Center to get your resume reviewed! Our staff can also share tips on how to navigate a career fair, how to dress, and what to say in your elevator pitch. Our walk-in hours are Monday-Thursday 1-4pm, or you can schedule an appointment on Handshake!

Gold Career Readiness Workshop on February 21: Writing My First Resume
Still need help writing your resume? Join the Center for Career Development on Tuesday, February 21, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center in the Multipurpose Room (second floor) for this Gold Career Readiness Workshop! Mr. Russ Coughenour, Center for Career Development Director, will be describing the qualities of a strong, foundational resume.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Gold Career Readiness Certificate for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card with you to receive credit for attendance.

UPDATE: Consider serving as a judge for 18th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day
The 18th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day is planned for on Wed. and Thurs., April 19 and 20 on the quad in the Memorial Gym. The event, which is designed to promote and provide a venue for presenting student research and creative inquiry, is open to undergraduate/graduate students from all departments. We need judges from across campus to evaluate the students’ work. If you are an advisor, we encourage you to work with your students and sign off on their submission forms.
Poster judging will be from 4 p.m to 6 p.m., Wednesday, April 19. Students are invited to be available to discuss posters, and hors d’oeuvres will be served.
Judges should register at our Research Day website (you may have to log into Tech Express with your TTU credentials). UPDATE: Consider participating in the 18th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day
The 18th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day is planned for in person on the quad in the Memorial Gym on Wed. and Thurs., April 19 and 20. The event, which is designed to promote student research and creative inquiry and provide a venue for presenting that work, is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments. All students must work with your advisor and your advisor should sign off on your submission forms. To participate in the event, students must submit an abstract (limited to 1500 characters) of their project via Research Day website by 11:59 p.m. Wednesday, March 8. No abstracts will be accepted after this date.It is expected that each submitted abstract will be developed into a poster (or paper for those in the English Department) to be presented during the event.

Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Recognizes Dr. Edward Lisic’s Team
Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Edward Lisic (Chemistry), Mrs. Janet Coonce (Chemistry), and Dr. Derrick Edwards (Counseling & Psychology) for receiving Level 2 funding ($2,500-$10,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Lisic’s team proposed their project titled “Increasing Young Student Interest in STEM Education Through Games and Free Apps,” which will develop free educational games and apps to increase student engagement in at-risk K-12 public schools. They will employ student workers to help “test, analyze, and develop” the workability and effectiveness of these games and apps. Their project’s results will be displayed in research showcases, published in journals, and serve as crucial, preliminary data for larger grant funding. We congratulate Dr. Lisic, Mrs. Coonce, and Dr. Edwards and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

Body Politic: A Collaborative Print Series
The Joan Derryberry Art Gallery presents Body Politic, a collaborative print series by Tonja Torgerson and Christa Carleton. Together they challenge the conventional views that beleaguer gender roles through the figurative nude. “Our prints resist outdated mindsets about performing femininity and question widespread notions about the role and standing of female-expressing people.” The exhibition opens Feb. 13 and concludes with a gallery talk and reception March 23 at 4:30 p.m. in the Roaden University Center 124. Gospel Extravaganza Community-Wide Praise

Dr. Carla Hurt Travels to Curacao to Assist in Filming a Documentary
Dr. Carla Hurt, Associate Professor in the Department of Biology, traveled to Curacao to assist National Geographic and Disney Plus, in obtaining footage of the Alpheus armatus (pistol shrimp) for a documentary on underdogs of the biological world.
Dr. Hurt and her collaborator from Seattle University, Kristin Hultgren, worked on location in Curacao with the film team Wildstar Films (United Kingdom) in January to film the pistol shrimp underwater and in an aquarium. The pistol shrimp received its common name from the loud snapping noise they make with their large claw. Alpheus armatus live in curly cue sea anemones and protect their anemone home from predators, such as fireworms. This trip was funded in part by a grant from the National Science Foundation.
The film group is also interested in generating a three-dimensional image of the claw to look at the snapping mechanism. Dr. Hurt and her team brought back claw samples to scan for the three-dimensional imaging and are hoping to work with the IMaker space on Tennessee Tech’s campus to obtain these scans.
