Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Application
The Center for Rural Innovation is excited to announce that the Rural Reimagined Grand Challenge Faculty Grant Program will be granting $150,000 to TN Tech faculty members to help fund rural-related projects! Russ Coughenour, Director of the Center for Career Development, will share the best way to answer tough interview questions utilizing the STAR-L Method!

Dr. Rajabali’s Team to Build an Ion Beam Facility
Associate Professor Dr. Mustafa Rajabali is building an ion beam laboratory on campus. By teaching a diverse group of students how to get information and direction from departments across campus, Dr. Rajabali and his team have saved countless dollars and gained valuable hands-on experience. The team’s projects are impressive in both scope and cost savings.
The ion-beam facility is unique in that it involves only undergraduates in every aspect of its design, development and construction. It is envisioned to be a training ground for undergraduate science and engineering majors who intend to pursue a path in graduate studies or choose a career path in applied physics. The lab incorporates many fields in physics and engineering and is a critical part of a plan to develop a facility that will support a multitude of research projects including work related to Dr. Rajabali’s Department of Energy, Office of Science, Nuclear Physics Grant.
The ingenuity and resourcefulness of Dr. Rajabali’s team has resulted in unique experiences for undergraduate students in acquiring knowledge, collaborating with other departments and facilities on campus, and in learning how build their own equipment. Invaluable lessons learned even before the lab and equipment contained within are fully functional. It’s not the destination, it’s the journey!

TN Tech ASME Student Chapter Meeting – October 20
Join Tennessee Tech’s ASME Student Section for our meeting on Thursday, October 20 at 11:00 am in Brown Hall 315. We will feature our first guest speaker of the semester, Cody Long, a 2020 graduate from Tech’s mechanical engineering department who had the pleasure of finding his first job out of school during the pandemic lockdowns. From working at a trailer manufacturer to starting a career at Y-12, Cody’s story is worth a listen.

Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Caleb Eldridge and Imran Mohammed
This week we’ll have two presentations in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar. In his talk Beam Chamber Construction and Generator Shaft Alignment, Physics major Caleb Eldridge will describe his work developing TTU’s ion beam lab over the summer. Computer Science and Physics major Imran Mohammed will then present his investigation of 3D printing for vacuum applications in his talk Vacuum Compatibility of 3D Printer Materials. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210. (Snacks will be served starting at 3:30pm.) These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

University Records Retention Changes
The retention table/schedule in Policy 113 (Record Retention and Disposition) was updated on July 1, 2022. The update included retention changes for some records, enhanced descriptions for clarity, and new state requirements. There are new rows for records related to agreements, discrimination, harassment, leave, HR, university police, open record requests, security recordings, and media. There is also now a records management training video on the library website: https://www.tntech.edu/library/records-management/index.php. It’s about eight minutes long and explains how to use the records management website, access the policy, destroy records, and document destruction.
