Budget Office – Upcoming Deadlines
The Budget Office would like to remind everyone of upcoming deadlines:
Proposed Budget – Departments/Units should submit their requests for new budget resources by 3/05/21. All Administrative and Support Units should submit their new requests directly to the Budget Office, and all Academic Units should submit their initial budget request in accordance with instructions received from the Provost Office.
Current Estimate – Clean up entries for Current Estimate are also due by 3/05/21. Please check for deficits in your account lines. Budget revisions needed to clean up the bonuses are being created by the Budget Office and will be processed next week.

Education Career Fair is in Memorial Gym on Tuesday, Mar. 2
Join the Center for Career Development and the College of Education for the annual Education Career Fair on Tuesday, Mar. 2, from 10am – 12pm in the Memorial Gym. ALL students, ALL majors are invited to participate to learn about career opportunities with school systems.
Students should come dressed to impress, bring plenty of resumes, be prepared to discuss your career interests with employers, and have their Eagle Card on hand to obtain a personalized name tag. This event counts toward Career Readiness Certification.
All participants will be required to follow Campus Return to Tech Guidelines in regards to social distancing and face coverings.
We will also ask that you come to the event as follows if at all possible:

Reminder to submit Scholastic Research Award applications by Feb. 28
This is a reminder that applications for the scholastic Research award must be submitted electronically in a single PDF to sstorie@tntech.edu on or before Feb. 28. The Scholastic Research Award, presented by the University Research Advisory Committee, is a university-wide award for a single, significant and innovative work produced, published, performed or exhibited from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. Two awards, of $1,500 each, are available each year, with one reserved for tenure-track faculty and the other reserved for tenured faculty. For complete application requirements, please visit the Office of Research website, and select the section for the Scholastic Research Award.

Tech Strong: Day of Service
The university will pay tribute to the lives lost and impact of the March 3, 2020 tornado on the local community. There will also be opportunities to sign up for service projects as an alternative spring break. Free boxed lunches will be provided, as well as t-shirts. COVID-19 precautions will be in place with social distancing, and face coverings will be required. Bells across the county, including the Derryberry carillon, will sound at 1:48 p.m. in memory of the 19 lives lost.

Rural Journeys Speaker Series: Bruce Allen
The Rural Reimagined Club (RRC) is excited to announce our next Rural Journeys Speaker Series with guest speaker Bruce Allen. Bruce Allen is the Executive Director of B Tennessee, a non-profit whose mission is to advance corporate social responsibility in Tennessee through educational programming and community building. He also serves as the inaugural Impact & Innovation Fellow at Rockridge Venture Law in Cookeville. He is passionate about equitable access to education and capital, rural economic development, and connecting people with great opportunities.

Grading Rubrics Workshop Session
Grading rubrics are assessment tools to help instructors and students focus on the expectations of an assignment. While generic grading rubrics are plentiful, it is recommended that instructors use the course standards to build effective grading rubrics in order to determine the level of student success within each assignment. In addition to facilitating learning, rubrics can also help to make the grading of the assessments fair and consistent. This workshop will offer discussions on the practical consideration of using grading rubrics within a course and research-based practices for rubric design. It will also include a demonstration of constructing grading rubrics within iLearn and connecting them to the gradebook.
