I Heart Tech Students Spotlight: ASPIRES
ASPIRES is a new federally-funded grant program at Tech that recruits and trains registered nurses and professional advocates to provide care for survivors of sexual assault. ASPIRES focuses on providing forensic exams (i.e. rape kits), comprehensive advocacy services, connection to resources, care in an encouraging and positive manner, promoting a healing environment and addressing the basic human needs of safety, security and increased self-esteem. While the federal grant covers operating costs, ASPIRES hopes that through the I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative they can raise money to offer additional support for survivors. For example, they would like to be able to provide each survivor with a tote bag that includes a change of clothes, toiletries, adult coloring books, stress balls, coping cards, water and snacks.

I Heart Tech Students Spotlight: Eagle’s Wing Veterans Center
The Eagle’s Wing Veterans Center is a 1,028-square-foot space located on the third floor of the Jere Whitson building and is dedicated to Tech’s veterans, servicemembers and their dependents. The “Vet Center,” as it is affectionately known, serves as an on-campus hub where student veterans can get information or assistance with their military benefits, study, socialize, relax or even grab some much-needed nourishment. Support of the Vet Center through the I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative will allow the Military and Veteran Affairs Office to continue their work of ensuring student veterans, servicemembers and their families have a place where they can find camaraderie, resources and advocacy.

Tennessee Tech alumni are its most passionate ambassadors and loyal donors, because they know that a Tech education creates opportunities, prepares career-ready graduates and changes lives. For many students, affording college tuition without financial aid is impossible. The Tennessee Tech Alumni Association established the Alumni Association Scholarship nearly 30 years ago to help students pursue a college degree.

Summer 2022 and Fall 2022 Book Order Submissions
Summer and Fall advisement will be taking place 3/28 and we need to start thinking about book orders.
The University is still setting up classes and we do not yet have the enrollment file. We expect to receive it 3/16. Once the enrollment file is loaded, we will send out an email letting you know that you may begin submitting adoptions into AIP (Adoption Insights Portal).
In the meantime, if you know which classes you are teaching, send Shannon an email and she will manually put your course materials in the system for you. (Department, Course, Section ex. ACCT 2110 001) In the subject line, please indicate if it for Summer, Fall or both.
We still want to stay compliant with the HEOA laws therefore Summer and Fall book orders are Due March 25. If you are looking into new course material for Summer or Fall please let us know.

Lactation Room Opened!
The College of Interdisciplinary Studies is proud to announce the opening of one of three planned Lactation Areas on Campus. The purpose of these spaces is to provided lactating/breast-feeding mothers a comfortable and private spot as needed. ARE YOU AWAKE? A Human Trafficking and Drug Endangered Child Conference
Tech ASPIRES, Power of Putnam, Willow Bend Farms, and other area agencies are co-sponsoring, ARE YOU AWAKE? A Human Trafficking and Drug Endangered Child Conference. The conference will be at The River Church in Cookeville on May 5th and 6th from 8am-5pm. Participants will receive advanced training on signs of Human Trafficking, develop trauma informed and strength-based responses and more. German Professor Selected as Fellow
Martin Sheehan, Associate Professor of German and Interim Chair of the Department of Foreign Languages, has been named a Fellow of the Berlin Seminar on German Literary Institutions. Sponsored by the Max Kade Foundation and the University of Notre Dame in partnership with the University of Georgia, this prestigious program brings together scholars of German literary and cultural studies with experts and leading figures of Germany’s contemporary literary scene. Past fellows have come from all academic ranks and many different institutions, including Duke, Brown, Michigan State, UCLA, the Ohio State University, Virginia Tech, and Fudan University in China. As a Fellow, Dr. Sheehan will share his most recent research on German theater, disability studies, and digital humanities.

Tech’s student media tell the stories of campus and provide excellent hands-on learning experiences in journalism. The student-run newspaper, magazine, radio station, television station and yearbook offer students the chance to gain practical skills for their future careers. The Golden Eagle Media Fund was established to support paid positions on the student media so that students can participate while earning pay to cover their college living expenses.

Project ASPIRES is the new federally funded project that brings Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners and Victim Advocates to Tech’s campus.
