  • School of Human Ecology to present Outstanding Student Awards

    Annually the School of Human Ecology recognizes outstanding students during a reception scheduled in April. This year’s awards will be presented virtually on Friday, May 8.

  • Search for Director, Women’s Center

    The Women’s Center is conducting a search (internal only) for a part-time Director to lead and support efforts for women’s equity across campus and the community. The appointment to the position is for 1 – 3 years and is renewable. Applicants will be required to electronically upload a Letter of Interest and a detailed Curriculum Vitae. It is the applicant’s responsibility to ensure all materials are received. Applications without all required documents are incomplete and will not be considered.   • Stadium Drive Closure

    Stadium Drive will be closed beginning Monday, May 11th from 7th Street to the end of Browning Evins Residence Hall.  It will remain closed until the completion of roof replacement work on Browning Evins Hall.  Armstrong Avenue will be open from 7th Street and Wings Up Way will be open from the new Student Recreation Center to Stadium Drive.

    College of Education Celebrates National Teacher Appreciation Week

    In its sixth year the Annual Teacher Appreciation Celebration, coordinated by the College of Education and in partnership with local businesses, strives to recognize dedicated P-12 teachers and up-and-coming teacher candidates. This year’s Teacher Appreciation awards, in a variety of categories, have been presented virtually.

    Future educators awards went to Kaitlyn Eastin, a graduate student pursuing her master’s degree in Secondary Education/Math; the undergraduate award was presented to Richard Hendricks, an Elementary Education major.

    The 2020 Alumna of the Year was Hunter Zanardi. She is an Instructional Specialist / RTI2 Interventionist at Algood Elementary providing a multi-tiered approach to assisting students with their learning, social, and behavioral needs.

    Faculty, Student, and Staff Awards Presented by the College of Education

    Annually the College of Education recognizes outstanding members of their faculty, students, and staff during a reception usually scheduled for National Teacher Appreciation Day. This year’s awards have been presented virtually.

    Faculty award categories and recipients: Teaching/Jeremy Blair, Asst. Prof.; Research/Andrea Arce-Trigatti, Inst.; Service/Jennifer Meadows, Asst. Prof.; Team Player/Christy Killman, Chair of Exercise Science.

    Graduate and undergraduate students were recognized in these categories, respectively: Leadership/Lindsey Braisted and Kayla Hill; Service/Ashley Gilbert and Laura Scarborough; Professionalism/Jordan Killmon and Staci Dildine; Go-Getter/Jake Warwick and Barrett Streeter.

    Charles Craig received the Outstanding Advisor Award and Kathy Falkner in Curriculum & Instruction, the Outstanding Staff Award.

  • Hot Water Outage May 10-23

    There will be no hot water or steam on campus May 10-23, 2020 during the annual steam system outage.  Natural gas and electric water heaters will continue to operate at Tech Village, New Hall North, Southwest Hall, RUC (for food service only), East Stadium, West Stadium, APC, Foundation Hall, Hooper Eblen and Fitness Center.

     

    This outage is necessary to perform preventative maintenance, and is scheduled annually following spring commencement to minimize impact on other campus events.

    The final four candidates for the Director of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness (IARE) will have full-day Zoom interviews with campus on May 8th, 11th and 12th.               Tennessee Tech Today

              This week’s Tennessee Tech Today includes Jennifer Shank, Dean of the College of Fine Arts, talking about taking commencement to her graduating seniors; Michael Aikens, Director of Innovation and Entrepreneurship, and students Libby Baldwin, Daniel Hines and Annalicia Larsen discussing Eagle Works; and Allen Mullis, Executive Director for Student Success, and Simone McElvey, Director of Advising and Retention Services, discussing registration for summer and fall semesters.

               

            • This year’s Research and Creative Inquiry Day winners announced

              The winners and proceedings from this year’s Research and Creative Inquiry Day are now available online at https://www.tntech.edu/research/research-day/index.php. Just as the entire campus was adapting to conditions surrounding COVID-19, the 2020 Research and Creative Inquiry Day event was modified from its usual in-person format to a digital one this year. The digital format allowed students to still be able to showcase their research by submitting a digital poster or paper that was judged online. Of the 222 abstracts originally received, 184 digital posters/papers were submitted for judging. Also special this year were three creative media inquiry projects developed in the Social Problems (SOC 1650) class taught by Dr. Ada Haynes, Professor of Sociology, during the Fall 2019 semester. The videos from those projects can be found on the event web page. The Office of Research congratulates the winners and sincerely thanks everyone who contributed to making this event so successful despite the unusual circumstances.

            • Vickie Floyd Retiring

              Vickie Floyd Retiring

              After 35 years with Tennessee Tech University, Vickie Floyd of the Business Office is retiring. Today, Friday, May 1, 2020 is her last day with Tennessee Tech. There will be a retirement celebration held for Vickie at a later date when we can all gather together. Vickie will be greatly missed; however, we wish her the best retired life!

            • Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Presentation of Senior Physics Projects

              Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Presentation of Senior Physics Projects

              In the final Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar of the semester, Alex and Zach Chaney will give a talk on their senior physics research. The work involves a study of beam-driven neutron production via computer simulation, and will be of interest not only to computer science and physics majors, but also to folks studying a wide variety of subjects since neutron sources are used in many fields: manufacturing, medicine, geology, and materials science to name a few. The seminar will be this Friday, May 1st, at 3pm, and is geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!             • Undergraduate Graduation Application Deadline for Fall 2020 is May 1

              The deadline to apply for undergraduate graduation for Fall 2020 is May 1. Students apply online using their Eagle Online account and must have earned 80 credit hours. Students should review their Degree Works audit located in Eagle Online; check to make sure the catalog term, major and minor are correct before applying.
