Campus Blood Drive with the Bloodmobile February 25th
Tau Beta Pi is hosting a blood drive on campus on Saturday, February 25th from 10AM to 2PM in the Stadium/Hoop parking lot. Anyone is welcome to donate! Fifth annual I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative runs through March 27
Tennessee Tech’s 5th annual I Heart Tech Students fundraising initiative kicked off yesterday!
Each year, the Golden Eagle community comes together to provide support for programs that put students first, and faculty and staff gifts make a huge impact! Thanks to the funds raised in previous I Heart Tech Students initiatives, the Food Pantry expanded their hours and purchased a new refrigerator to provide healthy options for students who face food insecurity. The Veterans Center purchased new computers for student veterans. And faculty and staff were instrumental in establishing the Eagle Assistance Grant, which provides emergency funds for students in need. When Tech experienced one of the toughest years in history in 2020, students had the support and emergency aid they needed, thanks to you.
A gift of any amount to any area on campus between Feb. 14 and March 27 counts in the I Heart Tech Students total. The amount of the gift isn’t as important as simply the act of giving.

CISE Grant Applications Due March 24
Creative Inquiry Summer Experience (CISE) grant applications are due March 24. Grants are for a maximum of $4,000 with up to $3,500 as a paid stipend. Please email your application as a single combined PDF file to lweathers@tntech.edu. Application materials are available on the CISE website.

Rural Reimagined Faculty Grant Program Recognizes Dr. Samantha Hutson’s Team
Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Samantha Hutson (Community Health and Nutrition), Dr. Hannah Upole (Design Studies), Ms. Allison Coutinho (Nutrition and Dietetics), and Ms. Amber Buckner (Community Health and Nutrition) for receiving Level 3 funding ($10,000-$25,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Hutson’s team proposed their project titled “Spring into Health and Wellness: A Pop-Up Event,” which will supply take-home wellness boxes to families in the Upper Cumberland’s rural areas. Their project will support the development of these rural areas by providing “wellness-related resources that can help them to develop healthy life skills, such as increasing their knowledge of healthy eating habits, improving financial well-being, and understanding the ways that personal hygiene can impact overall wellness.” We congratulate Dr. Hutson, Dr. Upole, Ms. Coutinho, and Ms. Buckner and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

Co-op Meetup #2 on Tuesday, February 14, at 11 a.m. in the RUC Tech Pride Room
Are you interested in Co-op? Need to find out how YOU can be Co-op Eligible? Attend this Co-op Meetup on Tuesday, February 14, in Roaden University Center Tech Pride Room, at 11 a.m. New guidelines, which went into effect Fall 2022 for engineering student enrollment, will be shared.
This session will also have additional information regarding CPT for International Students. You do not want to miss this information session, if you will require a CPT to accept an internship or co-op opportunity.
The Co-op Meetup will explain the eligibility guidelines for enrolling in the Cooperative Education Program, which applies to all students. You may review the updated eligibility guidelines at: https://www.tntech.edu/career/students/co-op/eligibility.php

Student Affairs Student Spotlight – Miguel Fuentes Garcia
Congratulations to Miguel Angel Fuentes Garcia for being selected as this month’s Student Affairs Student Spotlight due to his embodiment of the Golden Eagle values. Miguel, who is originally from Saltillo, Coahuila, Mexico, is a Senior Mechanical Engineer major who hopes to become an engineer in the biomedical field. Miguel’s desire to work within this industry stems from his dream of helping “people heal faster than ever using vanguard technology while we create a personalized solution for each patient’s own needs.” This is evident through his current research, which is already being funded by URECA and CISE, into the strength of the Achilles tendons with the hope to develop a way to produce tissue for this cord instead of having it donated. He continues to make a difference as the president of Tennessee Tech’s SHPE (Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers) chapter. This position allows him the opportunity to fulfill his goals in better preparing his peers for the work force and encouraging the advancement of Hispanic students in STEM. Miguel’s strong leadership can additionally be found at the Upper Cumberland Hispanic Heritage Festival where he was the Arts & Crafts Coordinator and he helped to organize the first SHPE Sub-Regional Retreat. It is Miguel’s bold fearless leadership style and passion for pursuing vital knowledge that make him such an excellent choice for the Student Affairs Student Spotlight.

Non-traditional students are defined as being independent for financial aid purposes, having one or more dependents, being a single caregiver, not having a traditional high school diploma, delaying post-secondary enrollment, attending school part-time, and/or being employed full-time.
