Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Metals
A thesis exhibition by Anna Grayson to be on display at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The show is to be exhibited in the Lakeview Gallery from November 23 – December 6, 2022. The exhibition features a wide range of works centering on the stigma surrounding all things death and dying.
“Death is something we all face at some point in our life so why is it that we have made it into such a sensitive subject? Life and death are two sides of the same coin.” says Grayson

University Orchestra Concert!
The University Orchestra will perform its final concert of the semester on Tuesday evening, November 22nd at 7:30pm, in Wattenbarger auditorium at the Bryan Fine Arts Center. The program will include works by Beethoven, Manuel de Falla, and Stefan Freund. “divertennmento” for string orchestra, was commissioned and premiered by the University Orchestra in 2009 as a part of a Center Stage residency with composer Stefan Freund. “I think it’s great that we have a work written specifically with us in mind and I enjoy performing it with each new generation of students at Tech” says Orchestra Director Dan Allcott. “Stefan was born in Memphis, and as you might expect, this work reflects on three important types of music in Tennessee: Country, Blues, and Rock ‘n’ Roll.”
The concert is free of charge and open to the public.
The University Orchestra, under the direction of Professor Dan Allcott, is comprised of students from across campus and various disciplines. It is open to orchestral stringed instrument players with previous experience. Wind, brass, and percussion players are assigned by Tech professors of those instruments. Success Story: 2018 Eagle Works Winner Grows Successful Business
Tennessee Tech’s Rural Reimagined hosts the annual Eagle Works Competition to help future entrepreneurs start their businesses. Each team proposes its business, and a winner is selected based on potential rural impact. In 2018, Téa Phillips with her partners won $6,000 for first place in the Eagle Works competition. The group created Metaflex, which is a glove designed to alleviate discomfort and pain for those who suffer from arthritis. Currently, Metaflex is a rapidly growing business providing affordable arthritis support. Phillips recommends working with Rural Reimagined, “They know what they are talking about. Join the Non-Traditional Student Organization on Tuesday, November 15, 2022, in Henderson 214.
Everyone is welcome! Non-traditional students are defined as being independent for financial aid purposes, having one or more dependents, being a single caregiver, not having a traditional high school diploma, being over 25 years of age, delaying post-secondary enrollment, attending school part-time, and/or being employed full-time. We encourage faculty and staff who are also taking classes, and graduate students who are on campus.

Tech cybersecurity student from Japan finds leadership, internship opportunities
Rumi Ujiie’s educational story has many chapters.
The Tennessee Tech grad student from Japan grew interested in computer science after being introduced to web application development her sophomore year at Komazawa University in Tokyo. Her story as a Golden Eagle started in 2018 when she came her junior year as an exchange student.
“I feel like Tennessee Tech is so diverse,” she said. “The people are so nice, and there’s always help when you need it.”
Since returning to Tech to pursue her graduate studies in 2021, Ujiie has served as a teaching assistant, researcher for CEROC and president of the Computer Science Graduate Student Club. In early 2022, she received the Kandy Thevar International Graduate Student Scholarship, which is awarded annually to an international student in the College of Engineering. A new chapter in her story was written this past summer – an internship at AllianceBernstein in Nashville. Read more

Tech Farm Pumpkins & Gourds
Tech Farm has pumpkins and gourds available just in time to decorate for Thanksgiving.
We have assorted ornamental gourds, small white pumpkins, and orange pumpkins. Gourds and white pumpkins are 6 for $5 and the orange pumpkins are 2 for $5. We can accept cash or check payments.
The pumpkins and gourds are available for pickup in Oakley Hall 102.

SciFinder To Be Retired on Dec. 31 – Transition Your Account to SciFinder-n
Are you a SciFinder user with a current account? If so, it is time to transition to the new SciFinder-n interface!
SciFinder/SciFinder Scholar/SciFinder Classic will be retired on December 31, 2022. Going forward, you must use the new interface called SciFinder-n. The good news is that your existing login for SciFinder will continue to work in SciFinder-n. However, if you have any saved answer sets or search alerts set up in your SciFinder/SciFinder Scholar/SciFinder Classic account, you must migrate them to SciFinder-n by December 31, 2022. How to assist a distressed student
The Tennessee Tech University Counseling Center is dedicated to ensuring that faculty, staff, and students work and learn in an environment that is safe, respectful, and responsive to those in distress. This protocol document provides guidance to staff, faculty and students to identify and assist students in distress.
The Tennessee Tech University Counseling Center is committed to providing resources to ensure that a student in crisis is responded to quickly, responsibly and in an empathetic manner. A distressed student may also display disruptive behaviors, which may be covered by student conduct policy, and not be addressed directly by this protocol. This protocol is designed to provide guidance to the campus community. It defines how to:
