401-(k) Plan Match for FY24
Higher Education Employees will be eligible to receive a $1 match for every $1 contributed to the State of Tennessee 401(k) plan each month, up to $100, for the fiscal year beginning July 1, 2023. That’s a maximum match of $100 per month for contributions of $100 or more.
If you’re already contributing at least $100 to your 401(k) account each month, great news! You are all set to receive the full $100 match beginning with the first payroll for FY23. If you haven’t yet enrolled or aren’t currently contributing at least $100 each month to the 401(k) account, don’t leave extra money on the table! To get the full match for the fiscal year, log into your 401(k) account now via Empower or by contacting RetireReadyTN at 1-800-922-7772.
The match is currently approved for fiscal year 2024, which runs July 1, 2023, to June 30, 2024.

TN Tech Live Audio Summer Academy
The TN Tech School of Music is excited announce the inaugural Live Audio Summer Academy. This one-day camp (9am – 5:30pm), is designed for individuals who want to learn more about mixing sound for the marching arts, musical theater, church, rock bands, and other large live performance events.
We are hosting two camps, one for students and one for adults.

CITL Replay: Course Design, Looks DO Matter
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) on Tuesday, May 30th at 11 AM for our next workshop on Course Design. Course design impacts the overall effectiveness and appeal of a class. Looks and content increase student interest and motivation by making the course more engaging. Organization reduces cognitive load, which can help students understand the material more effectively. In this session, we will share engagement and organizational strategies for course design best practices according to the OLC Rubric. College of Education Presents at International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry
Tennessee Tech’s College of Education and Exceptional Learning Ph.D. program were well represented at the 19th Annual International Congress of Qualitative Inquiry at the University of Illinois May 17-20, 2023.
Students and faculty presented on a wide range of topics, including: special educators’ job satisfaction, athletic trainer education transitions, teacher stressors and burnout, female college athletes’ relationships with their bodies, low-income first-generation college student persistence, overseas student teaching experiences, and children’s summer literacy.

Silk Painted Scarves with Rena Wood
Over the course of the weekend students will learn the basics of silk painting, the tools and materials used, and various techniques for creating designs on the surface of the cloth. We’ll also discuss finishing techniques, such as steaming and washing, to set the dyes and make the painting permanent. You’ll leave the class with a beautiful silk painting that you can display or wear as a one of a kind work of art.

Changes to parking payroll deductions
Based on the feedback of the Staff Advisory Committee, the university is making improvements to how payroll deductions for parking are processed. Beginning this fall, parking deductions will be applied over nine months to help spread out the cost for employees, provide greater predictability, and avoid larger lump sum deductions.
This change does not require any action on employees’ part at this time and permits will still remain valid from August 16th to August 15th of the following year. Employees making an online parking permit selection in the fall will see a change this next year.
Alternatively, faculty and staff may pay for parking with a personal check or credit card. However, in these cases, full payment for these methods is required at the time of selection.
Benefited employees earning less than $30,000 annually (gross) will be eligible for a parking subsidy for the purple lot only which will reduce the out-of-pocket cost to $20 for the year.
