Grand Opening Celebration
Join us for a special event celebrating the opening of the largest buildings on Tennessee Tech University’s campus: the Laboratory Science Commons with the Stonecipher Lecture Hall and the Marc. L Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center!
Friday, April 9 we will celebrate these new facilities with events featuring outdoor activities, refreshments, commemorative giveaways and socially distanced tours.
Laboratory Sciences Commons – 1 p.m.
Stonecipher Lecture Hall – 1:30 p.m.
Marc L. Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center – 2 p.m.
Face coverings are required. Parking will be reserved for guests in the lots immediately around the new fitness center, at Oakley STEM Center, in front of Southwest Hall, and in the gravel parking lot along Willow Avenue.

New 4-way Stop at Stadium Dr and Wings Up Way
On Wednesday morning, 4/7/2021, the existing 2-way stop at the intersection of Stadium Dr and Wings Up Way will be converted to a 4-way stop. Traffic will remain open during this effort.

Third Annual I Heart Tech Students Campaign raises $501,530!
Each year, the “I Heart Tech Students” Campaign raises funds for areas that help students during tough times. The third annual “I Heart Tech Students” Campaign was our most successful to date, raising $501,530 for Tennessee Tech students! Thank you to everyone who supported this campaign! Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Geist Received Tolbert Research Award
Dr. Melissa J. Geist received the Tolbert Research Award to serve as PI for ESTAR Sano (Education, Support, Training, Awareness, and Resources) to mitigate the negative effects of COVID-19 on the Hispanic/Latinx population in the Upper Cumberland Region. The ESTAR team includes co-PI, Dr. Mark Groundland (Associate Professor of Foreign Languages-Spanish), Cary Cass, MSN, RN, CHSE, TESL (WHSON Lab Coordinator and former Peace Corps Volunteer in El Salvador), Adriana Montalvo (S1 Nursing Student), and Cesar Espinosa (J2 Nursing Student). They conducted educational workshops for over 100 people, provided hand sanitizer, masks, Lysol spray, antibacterial wipes, etc., and distributed 200-Spanish language laminated cards with information about COVID-19 at the recent RAM clinic. They hope to reach more people this year and to continue partnerships to provide education and resources for chronic diseases. The ESTAR team is grateful for the financial support provided by Rebecca Tolbert.

Wings Up Weekend Scheduled for April 9-11
Like so many events in 2020-21, this year’s Wings Up Weekend will look a bit different with a smaller schedule and both in-person and virtual event options for alumni and friends. This year, both the Evening of Excellence Awards and the Legacy Gala, benefitting the Diversity Scholarship Initiative, will be held virtually, while the Appalachian Center for Craft will host its annual Celebration of Craft in person and online. Evening of Excellence Recognizes 2020 alumni award recipients
On April 9, the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association will recognize the following 2020 alumni award recipients in a virtual ceremony: Jake Hoot (Outstanding Young Alumnus), Maggie R. Smith (Outstanding Service), Leanna Garrick, H. Ray Sells, and J. Michael Winchester (Outstanding Philanthropy), and V. Leon Davis (Distinguished Alumnus). Some award winners have requested a virtual reception. Rural Journeys Speaker Series: Tues., Mar. 30, at 11 a.m.
The Rural Reimagined Club (RRC) is excited to announce our next Rural Journeys Speaker Series with guest speakers Libby Baldwin Duke and Daniel Hines. They are the co-founders of BrantleyMarie Medical Devices, Inc. and winners of the 2020 EagleWorks Competition. They won the competition with their idea for an endotracheal intubation device that was described as “the future of emergency medicine.” Libby and Daniel work together to identify unmet needs in the field of intubation that impacts patients in rural and pre-hospital settings.

Faculty Success Story: Thomas C. Evans Award
Rural Reimagined (RR) congratulates Drs. J. Robby Sanders, Andrea Arce-Trigatti, and Pedro E. Arce for winning the 2021 Thomas C. Evans Engineering Education Paper Award from the American Society of Engineering Education, Southeastern (ASEE-SE) Section. The co-authors delivered a lecture at the annual ASEE-SE virtual meeting, and the winning manuscript, “Promoting student problem-identification skills via a Jeopardy-inspired game within the Renaissance Foundry,” was published in Education for Chemical Engineers. It explores the role of a Jeopardy®-inspired game as an Organizational Tool within the Renaissance Foundry and its effectiveness for problem identification. These colleagues have also partnered with RR to lead the SERS-funded Holistic Foundry Undergraduate Engaged Learners (FUEL) program, which focuses on enhancing research opportunities for underrepresented student communities in engineering. Human Ecology FINAL DATES for Friday Cafe Spring Semester 2021
Friday Café is the hands-on learning experience for foods and nutrition students in Human Ecology. Menus are posted on Marketplace and on the Human Ecology Friday Café webpage. This spring semester students will utilize vegetables grown at Shipley Farm. Final dates will be Apr 9, Apr 16 and Apr 23. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all meals will be a carryout option only. There will be three time pick-up options each week (11:45 am, 12:00 pm, and 12:15 pm) with a limit of 10 meals for each time slot. Meals will be available for pickup inside the front door of Oakley Hall. Meal purchase is made through Marketplace by making prepayment by noon on Wednesday. Meal cost will be $8. Contact the Human Ecology office at 372-3157 with any questions.

Gold Career Readiness Workshop on Apr. 1 – Design Your First Resume Now!
Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, Apr. 1, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for this Gold Career Readiness Workshop. Have you been meaning to write your first resume but don’t know where to start? Russ Coughenour, Director of the Center for Career Development, will guide you through the characteristics of a well-written foundational resume.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Gold Career Readiness Certificate for freshman and sophomore students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.
