Katie Belt receives Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award
Katie Belt, a senior majoring in Geosciences and Chemistry, is the recipient of the 2025 Kurt Eisen Excellence in Liberal Arts Award. This is the highest student award given by the College of Arts and Sciences. In her Senior Thesis, Katie investigated the detrital zircon U-Pb provenance of Carboniferous siliciclastic rocks from the Southern Appalachian Basin in the Cumberland Plateau. While working on this project Katie learned and applied U-Pb zircon dating techniques and statistical analysis. Her research efforts culminated in an abstract submission to the Geological Society of America Connects 2024 conference in Anaheim, California, where she won the Sigma Gamma Epsilon Best Poster Award for excellence in design and scientific communication.

Budget Office – Budget Revisions & May Training
Any budget revision request forms that the Budget Office receives will be held for final review and processing until after the current estimate and proposed budgets are finalized and submitted to the state on May 5th. We appreciate your patience during this time. Please note for the remainder of fiscal year 2025, any budget revision requests will need to be temporary.

Mitchell County Volunteer Resource Center Donation Drive
The College of Education and Human Sciences Student Ambassadors are raising donations for the Mitchell County Volunteer Resource Center for the East Tennessee/North Carolina victims affected by Hurricane Helene in September. Move Along is a striking solo exhibition by artist Tyler Malone, a painting concentration student in the School of Art, Craft & Design. Exhibition opens April 23 through May 7 in the Bryan Fine Arts Building, lobby display. The public is invited to an opening reception on April 25, from 5-7pm.

The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning is conducting a Pulse Survey regarding the use of iLearn (D2L), our university’s learning management system (LMS). Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry Food Drive
We will be holding a food drive at the Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry Dedication on Tuesday, April 15th in the RUC Tech Pride Room at 11am.
The food pantry requests donations like pasta, canned chicken, rice, tomato sauce, cereals, pancake mix, baking supplies, canned soups, canned fruit and vegetables, and other canned goods and shelf-stable items.
Your gift honors Michelle’s legacy and helps to ensure the pantry will impact future generations of Tennessee Tech students.

Student Affairs Student Spotlight – Lauren Watson
Meet Lauren Watson, our April Student Affairs Student Spotlight! Lauren earned her bachelor’s degree in Public Policy from Georgia State University and is now a master’s student in Environmental Informatics at Tech. Lauren currently serves as Vice President of the Tennessee Scenic Rivers Association and recently helped plant 50 trees in the Cookeville community for Tennessee Tree Day 2025. She also played a key role in organizing a Sierra Club meeting on campus and advocated for legislation like the Tennessee Waste to Jobs Act as a District Ambassador during Conservation Day on the Hill. This summer, Lauren will intern with a transportation infrastructure company in Nashville on their Environmental Planning team. Congrats, Lauren!
