2023 Divisive Concepts Legislation Workshop
Faculty and staff are invited on October 25th from 3-4:30 PM to hear a presentation by our University Counsel about the state’s divisive concepts legislation updates. Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions. This professional development workshop is sponsored by the University Counsel and the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ). Library Halloween Costume Contest

Green Chemistry Presentation- Oct. 19
Join the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) as we learn about the field of Green Chemistry! Student Admittance for the Football game on 10/21 vs. SEMO
Your TTU Golden Eagle Football team takes on SEMO on October 21 at 1:30 p.m. Gates open one hour prior to kick-off. Students MUST SHOW their Eagle Card at the gates for admittance in to the football games. No outside food or drink are allowed in Tucker Stadium. Author, Pam Grossman, to Speak on the Archetype of the Witch
Pam Grossman is an author, podcaster, curator, and teacher of magical history. Her evening lecture will cover the fascinating and complex history of witchcraft, from the goddess mythologies of ancient cultures to the contemporary embrace of the craft by modern artists and activists.

Did you interview for or accept a Co-op position at the Employer Expo? Need to find out if you are on-track to be Co-op Eligible? Attend the Co-op Meetup on Thursday, October 19, in Clement 212 beginning at 11 a.m. New guidelines, which went into effect Fall 2022 for engineering student enrollment, will be shared.

Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Luke Parsons
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by TTU physics major Luke Parsons. In his talk Measurements of the 134Xe Neutron Capture Cross-Section Between 0.43 and 5.5 MeV, Luke will start off with a brief explanation of how “detectors” are used to obtain information about the physical world. He will then describe the use of HPGe radiation detectors at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) on the Duke campus in North Carolina to measure the probability of nuclear processes important in the search for extremely rare events that can provide insight into new physical principles. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! Matthew Cappezzuto – Artist Talk & Reception at JDAG
Join us in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery (JDAG) this Thurs., Oct. 19th at 5:00 p.m. for Matthew Cappezzuto’s artist talk during the closing reception for his solo exhibition. The JDAG is located on the 1st floor of the RUC, next to the spiral staircase. Refreshments will be available and all are welcome!
Matthew Capezzuto is a painter and educator who concentrates on painting’s historical role of depicting unreal or surreal materiality. He looks to the distant past (such as medieval European and Byzantine religious paintings) as well as material futurisms and science fictions (such as nanotechnology and extraterrestrial materials).

WEST Workshop: How to Write an Annotated Bibliography
Does your research project require an Annotated Bibliography? Have you never written one, or perhaps you need some pointers on how to make yours pop? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, is here to help! On Thursday, 10/19, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on writing annotated bibliographies. We can talk about the genre as a whole, and discuss specific concerns you might have for your class or instructor. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required, and all are welcome. And if you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. Periodic Table of Cupcakes Bake Sale- Oct 18
Celebrate National Chemistry Week by purchasing a cupcake of your favorite element! The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be holding a periodic table of cupcakes bake sale on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the LSC porch.
