ALICE Chapter Meeting
All Ladies in Civil Engineering (ALICE) will host our final meeting of the semester on Thursday, April 7, 2022, from 11-11:45am in Prescott 330! This is a chance to run for an officer position for the 2022-2023 school year! We will also be discussing our upcoming April Outdoor Day at Cane Creek Park. Paid Leadership Opportunity for the TN Boys State Program
Tennessee Tech will host the Tennessee American Legion Boys State program May 22-27. If you are a past Boy State delegate or have a general interest in the program, you will have the opportunity to participate as a Junior, Senior, or Athletic Counselor. Goldwater Scholarship awarded to Chemistry student
Brayden C. Copeland, a sophomore student pursing degrees in Chemistry and Biology, with a minor in Honors, is one of the 417 outstanding college sophomore and junior students selected nationwide to receive the Goldwater Scholarship (up to $7,500, for up to 2 years). Brayden’s award comes 23 years after the scholarship was last awarded to a Tech student in 1999.
Brayden is conducting research in the Chemistry Department with Dr. O. Andreea Cojocaru, ocojocaru@tntech.edu. His research focuses on converting solid-state drugs into new dual functional liquid state drugs that would address issues faced by solid-state drugs such as polymorphism, limited efficacy and bioavailability while allowing for the development of new drug delivery strategies. Brayden has presented his research at National and Regional meetings and he is an author on a manuscript that was recently accepted for publication. Brayden’s goal is to become a practicing clinical physician and researcher.

Writing Workshop: Pre-Writing!
Are you having trouble getting started on your paper? Do you have a lot of ideas, but need help figuring out how to turn them into an essay? Or maybe you’re just totally confused as to where to begin, or you need a push to keep you from procrastinating until the last minute. WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, is here to help! On Thursday, 4/7, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on pre-writing strategies. We will talk about brainstorming, organizing your thoughts, motivating yourself to write, and all manner of other things that will help you from panicking when it’s the night before the paper is due and you haven’t begun to write. Lykins named interim VP for Enrollment Management and Career Placement
Karen Lykins has been named interim vice president for Enrollment Management and Career Placement. She will also continue in her role as the university’s Chief Communication Officer.
This change is prompted by the departure of Brandon Johnson, who has accepted a position at his alma mater, Buena Vista University. He will remain at Tech through the end of this semester to help ensure a smooth transition and continue to be engaged in the continued freshman and transfer student recruitment efforts currently underway.
“Tech’s student recruitment efforts, as showcased at the most recent Board of Trustees meeting, have been revitalized and enhanced by Lykins’ and Johnson’s leadership,” said Tech President Phil Oldham. “It is to the benefit of the university that these efforts continue with as few obstacles as possible given this change, which is why I am very pleased that Karen has accepted this role, in addition to her leadership of the Office of Communications & Marketing.”
Lykins has been with Tennessee Tech since 1998, serving in various roles before being named Chief Communication Officer in 2017. She has been a member of the president’s cabinet since 2010 under then-President Bob Bell. In 2014, she was tapped to serve as the co-interim vice president for University Advancement.
In 2007, she was named Tech’s Outstanding Professional of the Year, and in 2010 received the Charles Holmes Award for Service from the Tennessee College Public Relations Association.

NASA Celebration Event on campus this Saturday
Tennessee Tech’s Crawford Alumni Center will host a NASA Celebration Event this Saturday, April 9, at 12:30 p.m. in the Stonecipher Lecture Hall. Join us to hear the stories of Tennessee Tech alumni and faculty who worked for NASA. Our keynote speaker will be Dr. June Scobee Rodgers, and we’ll share a special video from one of our most famous NASA alumni…Barry Wilmore! Results of University Advancement’s Ralph’s versus Big O’s taste test
Thank you to everyone who joined us for the I Heart Tech Students faculty and staff appreciation event! And thank you for participating in our Ralph’s vs Big O’s blind taste test. The purple toothpicks were the donuts from Big O’s and the red toothpicks were the donuts from Ralph’s. The results are in and the winner was…Big O’s! Regardless of your favorite, we thank the Golden Eagle community for supporting local businesses, and we thank you for your gift to the I Heart Tech Students initiative. The $173,262 raised is already being put to good use in support of Tennessee Tech students.

Winchester Lecture on April 12th
The History Department will be holding its annual Winchester Lecture on Tuesday, April 12th at 6:00 p.m. in Derryberry Hall auditorium. Louis Woods will present “Structural Barriers to Fair Housing: Nashville’s Segregated Housing Market, 1910-1950.” The event is free and open to the public. Graduate Student Appreciation Week – Build Your Own Trail Mix
The College of Graduate Studies invites all graduate students to participate in Graduate Student Appreciation Week. Festivities begin on Monday, April 4th, and conclude on Thursday, April 7. To kick off our week of appreciation, on Monday we will have a Build Your Own Trail Mix bar. The event will be held from 10:30AM-12:30Pm on the second floor of Derryberry Hall by the auditorium doors. This event is completely free for graduate students.
On Tuesday, April 5th, come and join us for carnival fun! We will have fresh popcorn, cotton candy, and shaved ice snow cones. This event will also be held in Derryberry Hall on the second floor by the auditorium from 1:30 – 3:30 PM.
