A Unique Thanksgiving Experience
Dr. Rajabali and two of his students experienced a non-traditional Thanksgiving in the TRIUMF Laboratory in Canada. Under Rajabali’s lead, Dakota Moya (sophomore electrical engineer) and Ethan White (freshman physics major), participated in a nuclear physics experiment.
The experiment is based on a very difficult to produce and rare isotope, 35Mg. It was produced using a combination of a very large cyclotron particle-accelerator and a state-of-the-art laser ion source. The 35Mg produced would have existed for a fraction of a second when the solar system was formed. The team measured the particles’ decay and products in the lab using the equipment pictured above – a part of which Dr. Rajabali built through funding from a Department of Energy Grant – to produce data that has never been seen before.
To round out their important work, they managed to squeeze in a unique Thanksgiving dinner of sushi before returning to their experiment. What an exceptional and unique Thanksgiving provided courtesy of Dr. Mustafa Rajabali.

Collab-O-Comix IV Book Release Party!
Collab-O-Comix IV is the culmination of a cross-disciplinary collaboration between Professor Kimberly Winkle’s ART 1050: Drawing II course and Professor Tony Baker’s ENGL 4650/5650: The Graphic Novel course. Students partnered across disciplinary lines, with the English students as writers and the drawing students as artists to create the 4th Collab-O-Comix volume featuring a wide variety of comics. Collab-O-Comix IV is generously supported through the QEP.
The book release party will take place on Monday, Dec. 5, 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the lobby of the Bryan Fine Arts Building. A few books will be given away to a few lucky winners (must be present to win)!

Final Rotaract Meeting 12/1
Hey guys! The Tennessee Tech Rotaract Club will be having its final meeting of the semester on December 1st in TJ Farr Room 203 during dead hour! We encourage anyone and everyone to come by and hang out with us as it will also just be a time to kick back and relax with us before Finals Week. We know everyone is not looking forward to them, so this will just be a way for you guys to come and not worry about them for a little while. We will have refreshments and food for you to enjoy at no cost to you as well, so please come on by if you want somewhere to not stress about your upcoming exams. Also if you are interested in the club itself, we will also gladly answer any questions you have about that. Public invited to final presentations of software studies students
What are the impacts of computing on modern society?
Students completing a special topics software studies course will answer that question during an evening of presentations Nov. 30 – and the public is invited.
“Software and computing technology are ubiquitous in modern society and pervade every aspect of our daily lives, but we often fail to consider the effects they have on our lives and our society,” instructor Cyril Focht said. “It’s especially important for those of us creating that technology to understand the impacts a piece of software will have once it’s used.”
The presentations, which begin at 6 p.m. in Stonecipher Lecture Hall 113, will provide students an opportunity to share what they have learned throughout the semester and practice communicating vital ideas with attendees of all technical expertise levels. It’s a first-of-its-kind event for the CSC 4903 class. Questions, contact aldavis@tntech.edu.
“My goal is for the audience to see approaches to thinking about technology other than how it’s created and to gain a deeper understanding of how software affects our lives,” Focht said.
