Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Luke Parsons
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by TTU physics major Luke Parsons. In his talk Measurements of the 134Xe Neutron Capture Cross-Section Between 0.43 and 5.5 MeV, Luke will start off with a brief explanation of how “detectors” are used to obtain information about the physical world. He will then describe the use of HPGe radiation detectors at Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory (TUNL) on the Duke campus in North Carolina to measure the probability of nuclear processes important in the search for extremely rare events that can provide insight into new physical principles. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! Matthew Cappezzuto – Artist Talk & Reception at JDAG
Join us in the Joan Derryberry Art Gallery (JDAG) this Thurs., Oct. 19th at 5:00 p.m. for Matthew Cappezzuto’s artist talk during the closing reception for his solo exhibition. The JDAG is located on the 1st floor of the RUC, next to the spiral staircase. Refreshments will be available and all are welcome!
Matthew Capezzuto is a painter and educator who concentrates on painting’s historical role of depicting unreal or surreal materiality. He looks to the distant past (such as medieval European and Byzantine religious paintings) as well as material futurisms and science fictions (such as nanotechnology and extraterrestrial materials).

WEST Workshop: How to Write an Annotated Bibliography
Does your research project require an Annotated Bibliography? Have you never written one, or perhaps you need some pointers on how to make yours pop? WEST, the Writing Excellence Studio at Tech, is here to help! On Thursday, 10/19, we will be leading a dead hour workshop on writing annotated bibliographies. We can talk about the genre as a whole, and discuss specific concerns you might have for your class or instructor. The workshop will be in Henderson Hall 304B, from 11:00-11:50. No registration is required, and all are welcome. And if you can’t make the workshop, come for a one-on-one session with one of our consultants. Periodic Table of Cupcakes Bake Sale- Oct 18
Celebrate National Chemistry Week by purchasing a cupcake of your favorite element! The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be holding a periodic table of cupcakes bake sale on Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the LSC porch. OCM to Host Contracted Vendor Promo Show
The Office of Communications and Marketing will be hosting a Contracted Vendors Promo Show on campus on Monday, Oct. 23, from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. in the Tech Pride Room of the Roaden University Center.
This is a great opportunity to see the latest promo items and network with the vendors. Invited vendors include: 4Imprint, Blink Marketing, Club Colors, Cookeville Promo, Consolidus, Harvest Promotional, Patdome Promotions and HALO Branded Solutions. Tech Printing Services will also be there to showcase new products available from the print shop.

You can purchase a mini whipped cream pie for $2 (or 3 for $5!) to throw at the participating faculty and lab teaching assistants.
