    Consider serving as a judge for 16th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day

    Due to the ongoing pandemic, the 16th Annual Research and Creative Inquiry Day will be in a digital/virtual format again this year, with event activities culminating in a virtual award ceremony at 11 a.m., Tuesday, April 20.  The event, which is designed to promote and provide a venue for presenting student research and creative inquiry, is open to undergraduate and graduate students from all departments.  Therefore, we need judges from across campus to evaluate the students’ work.  Please consider serving as a judge, and please also encourage your students to participate.

    Poster judging will take place from April 13 through 16.   • Scholastic Research Award Applications Due Feb. 28

    The Scholastic Research Award, presented by the University Research Advisory Committee, is a university-wide award for a single, significant and innovative work produced, published, performed or exhibited from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. Two awards, of $1,500 each, are available each year, with one reserved for tenure-track faculty and the other reserved for tenured faculty. Applications must be submitted electronically in a single PDF to sstorie@tntech.edu on or before Feb. 28, 2021.     To participate in the event, students must submit an abstract (limited to 250 words) of their project via the abstract submission link (https://tf.tntech.edu/machform/view.php?id=1056649) by 11:59 p.m., Wednesday, March 10. No abstracts will be accepted after this date. It is expected that each submitted abstract will be developed into a poster (or paper for those in the English Department) to be submitted during the April event.  Poster files do not need to be printed but must be completed by Monday, April 12.

    Invitation of Participants to Tennessee Tech Pilot EV Demonstration Project

    Tennessee Tech is currently conducting a U.S. Department of Energy-supported electric vehicle demonstration project to promote EV awareness and readiness in the Upper Cumberland region in Tennessee. Volunteers from Tennessee Tech and the Upper Cumberland region, are needed to participate in the project. Qualified volunteers will be retaining a market EV product (e.g., Nissan Leaf and plug-in hybrid pickup truck) for their daily applications for up to two weeks at no cost other than charging cost. The participating volunteers will have the opportunities to learn more information about EV such as the upfront purchase cost, the operational cost, EV performance and operation, and others.   • 2022 TBR Student Engagement, Retention, and Success Call for Proposals

    TBR recently released a call for proposals for the FY 2022 TBR Student Engagement, Retention, and Success (SERS) initiative. All applications are due on March 25, 2021. The grant period will be from July 1, 2021 through June 30, 2022 and the maximum funding is $50,000.

    Anyone planning to submit a TBR SERS proposal should submit the internal online Notice of Intent to Submit Proposal form as soon as possible. The Office of Research will coordinate obtaining legal counsel’s review and all required signatures (including Tech’s Diversity/Equity Officer, authorized representative for grants and sponsored programs, and business officer) but we must have advance notice of your planned submission via the internal Notice of Intent to Submit Proposal form.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Research at Mississippi State University

    We’ll kick off the Spring 2021 semester of (virtual) Undergraduate STEM Research Seminars with a presentation describing research activities at Mississippi State University (MSU). Professors Lamiaa El Fassi and Dipangkar Dutta (Experimental Nuclear Physics) and Professors Donna Pierce and Angelle Tanner (Astronomy and Astrophysics) will join us to describe their research as well as the overall program at MSU, which includes astronomy, atomic, molecular, optical, and plasma physics, computational physics, condensed matter physics, and nuclear physics. These research activities include work in both physics and engineering, so this will be an opportunity to hear and ask questions about a wide assortment of exciting scientific work! The seminar will be this Friday, February 5th at 4pm. It is geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend.     Research 101:Subrecipient Monitoring

    Register now to participate in the next session of the Research 101: Workshop Series, Subrecipient Monitoring. This session focuses on everything related to subrecipients from determining if an entity is a Subrecipient or a contractor to subrecipient monitoring itself -the procedures related to it and the roles and responsibilities involved in the process. The session will take place on February 4th from 11am-12pm via Teams.
