    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Prof. Jason Fry, EKU

    Professor Jason Fry from Eastern Kentucky University will be visiting (virtually) Friday to give this week’s talk in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar series. Professor Fry and his students work on a set of experiments designed to identify nuclear systems that are capable of enhancing the effect of possible “time violating” interactions, cases where “playing the movie backwards” would not describe what happens in an actual “reversed” experiment! The talk, The (A)Symmetry of Time and Space, will be this Friday, April 9th at 4pm. It is geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!     Research and Creative Inquiry Day abstract submission deadline approaching

    All students planning to participate in Research and Creative Inquiry Day must complete the online abstract submission form at by 11:59 p.m., Wed., March 10, 2021. After that time, no additional abstracts will be accepted. A confirmation email will be sent to the primary author upon abstract submission. If that email is not received, the abstract has not been successfully submitted. If this occurs, the student should resubmit or contact the Office of Research before the abstract submission deadline.

The Scholastic Research Award, presented by the University Research Advisory Committee, is a university-wide award for a single, significant and innovative work produced, published, performed or exhibited from Jan. 1 through Dec. 31, 2020. Two awards, of $1,500 each, are available each year, with one reserved for tenure-track faculty and the other reserved for tenured faculty. For complete application requirements, please visit the Office of Research website, and select the section for the Scholastic Research Award.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Aaron Kindred and Richard Mitchell

    The Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar this week features talks from Physics Major Aaron Kindred and Computer Science Major Richard Mitchell. Aaron is simulating a novel neutron detector called NEXT: Neutron dEtector with Xn Tracking. Richard’s talk, Integral method for fitting nuclear decay chains, will present a new technique for determining radioactive half-lives from complex, low-statistics data sets. The seminar will be this Friday, February 26th at 4pm. It is geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!   • NSF hosts S-STEM webinar and issues new Future Manufacturing solicitation
