Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) for our next workshop session on Tuesday, April 4th at 11 AM as we discuss personalized learning. Personalized learning is an approach to education that tailors instruction to students’ unique strengths, needs, and interests. In this session, we will discuss student-centered strategies for learning objectives, goal setting, ownership, and reflection opportunities. Tennessee Tech has partnered with Experian to provide a more efficient and secure way of completing employment verifications for our faculty and staff. This space aims to provide a confidential, safe, and trusting environment for reflection or a space to process the events that happened in Nashville, Tennessee this week. On Thursday, March 23rd, Tennessee Tech’s SGA hosted the first-ever Town Hall! Student leaders from different campus organizations were invited to speak with various campus administrators. These administrators were President Philip Oldham, Lori Mann Bruce (Provost and VP for Academic Affairs), Karen Lykins (VP for Enrollment and Communication), Rob Owens (Chief Diversity Officer), Cynthia Polk-Johnson (VP for Student Affairs), Claire Stinson (VP for Planning and Finance), Chuck Roberts (Associate VP of Facilities and Business Services), and Brian Seiler (Associate VP of Information Technology Services).
The night began with a mix and mingle where student leaders could converse with the administrators. Then, everyone moved into a time of Q&A. Before opening the floor, the administrators shared campus initiatives they were most proud of. Student leaders proceeded to ask their burning questions. The university’s growth and ways to sustain the growth were discussed, as well as improvements in accessibility around campus. Students also asked what each administrator would add to Tech and suggested ways they felt Tech could improve. The night ended with administrators advising the student leaders on how to make the most of the student experience. The overall consensus was to engage in events, classes, and relationships.

Following the Course Analytics Part 1 workshop, join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for iLearn Insights Dashboard & Analytics Part 2. During this session, we will share information about the new Insights Portal Dashboards implemented in December of 2022. The dashboards are a collection of reporting visualizations that allow you to dig deeper into the engagement or assessment quality in your courses. These dashboards compile the data from courses into a graphical representation that allows you to review engagement metrics, identify individuals or groups who are succeeding or at-risk, and ascertain the quality of your quizzes and question reliability. Congratulations to Kie Workman for being named this month’s Student Affairs Student Spotlight, an honor bestowed on him for his outstanding personality and accomplishments in academia. Kie is a senior Chemical Engineering major from Spring Hill, TN who has already accepted the position of production engineer for the company Primient when he graduates. He was nominated because of the passion and commitment he has shown in his research of negative ion photoelectron spectroscopy (NIPS) of various molecules. His enthusiasm for engineering can also be seen through his role as treasurer for the engineering honor society, Tau Beta Pi, where the leadership team, according to Kie, “is working to build a capable community of engineers that can grow together and give back to the community through various service events.” Besides being a phenomenal student, Kie enjoys spending time with his family and staying active through Tech’s Climbing Club. When asked what inspired the kindness and leadership that got him the nomination, he focused on his father and his girlfriend as his main inspirations. Kie truly embodies what it means to be a Golden Eagle through his upstanding character, promising leadership skills, and academic excellence which makes him more than deserving of this month’s Student Affairs Student Spotlight.
