Meet Liezl Laurel, our October Student Affairs Student Spotlight! A senior from Smyrna, Tennessee, Liezl is double majoring in Computer Science and Spanish. She’s a campus leader, a dedicated Spanish-English Interpreter for ESTAR Sanos, and an award-winning researcher. Liezl encourages other students to embrace growth and step out of their comfort zone. University Police Department recently promoted Sgt. Taylor King to a Lieutenant rank. LT. King joined the University Police Department in 2017 as a patrolman from Cookeville Police Department. Lt. King is currently the accreditation manager, TASER instructor, range instructor, and has training as a Field Training Officer and SWAT.
Lt. King will begin his new shift the first week of November after the department meets it first accreditation benchmark.

University Police Department recently promoted Lt. Mark Hillis to a Captain rank. Capt. Hillis joined the University Police Department in 2013 as a patrolman and currently has 34 years of law enforcement experience. Capt. Hillis oversees the department’s POST certifications, officer trainings, and the Safe Bar campaign.
Captain Hillis is eager to step into his new role for the betterment of campus and his department.
