    The kittens need your help! You can earn service hours by assisting in any of the following ways:

    • Signup for Project Whiskers, an on-campus adoption event on Friday, October 22nd, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. (contact Denise Colwell at dcolwell@tntech.edu or Tina Girdley at tgirdley@tntech.edu to volunteer).
    • Donate any of the following supplies to Carin’ About The Strays (CATS)
      • Friskies canned cat food
      • Purina Kitten Chow Naturals (dry food)
      • Kitty litter
      • Toys
      • Temptations (cat treats)
      • Puppy pads
      • Smallest breakaway kitten collars
      • PetSmart Gift Cards

    Bring supplies to the Quad on Friday, October 22nd, 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. or email Elizabeth Sofia at esofia@tntech.edu for other donation opportunities. This can count towards service hours!

    • Volunteer to help clean the cat condos, and check on the animals at PetSmart (contact Laura Spiecker via text at (931)529-1883)

    Carin’ About The Strays (CATS) is a 501(c)3 organization based out of Cookeville, Tennessee that specializes in the rescue and support of felines in Putnam County, Tennessee. The focus of CATS is to help care for abandoned or mistreated animals through foster programs, spay and neuter interventions, and socialization of orphaned kittens in order to facilitate successful adoptions. Most kittens taken in by CATS are abandoned, orphaned, and/or severely mistreated.

     

  • Annual Cyber-Security Training

    We’re recognizing Cybersecurity Awareness Month this October by sharing tips to stay cyber secure, both at work and at home. To turn away cyber attacks, a little knowledge teamed with critical thinking skills can go a long way!

    Please complete your annual security awareness training before October 31, 2021 midnight. You can access the training through the Tech Express Work Life card-look for the red Cyber-Security Training tab.     Friday Focus: IDEA Evaluations

    Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on a different resource, tool, or program available to faculty. During this session, Dr. Kevin Harris, the Associate Director of the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness (IARE) will provide an overview of the University course evaluation process, called IDEA. He will discuss how to select appropriate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) prior to student completion of the IDEA evaluations and provide tips on how to garner a good response rate. Join us on Friday, October 22nd at 12 PM.

    Group Work Part 1

    Student engagement and community are characteristics of a quality course regardless of the modality. While poorly structured group projects can lead to frustrations and stifle motivation for students, well-organized projects can pull students together as a team allowing them to learn from each other by sharing perspectives, mindsets, cultural expectations, and ideas. Join us for part 1 of this two-part series and learn how to successfully plan and utilize group work in your courses, as well as have a chance to hear from a student’s perspective.

    CAFÉ Conversations: President’s Cabinet Series

    Join us on October 20th at 3 PM in Derryberry Room 200 for our next CAFÉ Conversations session with Dr. Cynthia Polk-Johnson, Vice President for Student Affairs. During this session, Dr. Polk-Johnson and members of the Division of Student Affairs will provide an overview of their area and current resources and activities that promote student and faculty success. The conversation will also serve as an opportunity to engage with faculty on how they can partner with Student Affairs for overall student success.

  • Traffic/Road Changes on Saturday, October 16 on Dixie Avenue

    On Saturday, October 16, the Haunted Half Marathon will start and finish on campus.  Traffic will be briefly affected the morning of the race in order to provide a safe race route.  Vehicles exiting residence halls on the east side of campus will NOT be able to use Dixie Avenue and must exit through 9th Street only from 5 a.m. to approximately 11 a.m.  The campus community is advised to avoid Dixie Avenue north of 7th Street the morning of October 16 if at all possible.  Student residents are also advised that the start of the race will be signaled by ROTC firing the cannon at 7 a.m.  Please contact University Police at 372-3234 with questions.

    Our next CAFÉ Conversations brings together representatives from the Accessible Education Center and the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning. Join us on Monday, October 18th at 3 pm in Derryberry Hall 200 to learn about best practices for creating inclusive teaching environments and practical ways to make your classrooms more accessible with the use of instructional technology resources.

  • Socktober – New Socks for the Homeless

    Socktober – New Socks for the Homeless

    Research shows that the number one requested item among the homeless population is new socks.  TN Tech Residential Life’s Tech Wars Committee is partnering with the University Service Center to collect brand new socks for the month of October.  The halls are competing to see who can collect the most.

    These new socks will be donated to the Cookeville Police Department, PC Sherriff’s Department, Independence Again, Rescue Mission and other organizations that work with Cookeville’s homeless population.

    If you are interested in donating to this cause, you can bring your donation by to the University Service Center, RUC 119 (just beside the information desk on the first floor, in the lobby)

    We will collect for the entire month of October, so bring them in before the 31st.
