Rural Reimagined invites all students to get involved with paid or academic credit hour internships through the Upper Cumberland Development District (UCDD) in Spring 2021. There are currently 18 paid, college credit hour, service learning, or job shadowing internship positions ranging from 7-20 hours/week available within various UCDD departments. UCDD has internships available for all students from different fields of study, and some of their needs include marketing, event planning, communications, data collection, filing, IT support, social media management, research, grant writing, and more. TN Tech students in the past have had great experiences through UCDD internships, and Rural Reimagined encourages students from all majors and skillsets to get involved! Agriculture Students Win $5,450 in Scholarships from Ag Innovation Challenge
Rural Reimagined congratulates agriculture students Chelsay Burns, Nealie West, Annalicia Larson, and Madison Phillips for winning a total of $5,450 in scholarships at the Ag Innovation Challenge! The Innovation Challenge was held on November 10th, and six students from the Department of Agriculture competed to identify an agricultural problem and brainstorm innovative ideas for a solution. Chelsay Burns won the 1st place of $2,500; Nealie West won 2nd place of $1,500 in addition to the audience choice award of $350; Annalicia Larson won 3rd place of $1,000; and Madison Phillips received the Rural Reimagined award of $100. Dr. Dennis Fennewald and Mr. Matthew McClanahan wrote the grant for the challenge titled “Rural Renewal: A Roadmap for Rural America,” which was funded by the Charles Koch Foundation. Rural Reimagined is proud of the event’s success and the innovative ideas from all participants. Wings up!

Last Eagle’s Flight Meeting- Nov. 19th
Our last Eagle’s Flight event is this Thursday, November 19th, from 11 to 12 (dead hour) in Johnson Hall 401. It will be our Eagle’s Flight Winter Bash where we will play Eagle’s Flight trivia, hear from the Eagle’s Flight supervisor, Dr. Camuti, receive a boxed lunch/free swag, and say our final goodbyes for the semester. Rural Journeys Speaker Series – Tues., Nov. 17 at 3 pm
The Rural Reimagined Club and TAB is proud to announce the final Rural Journeys Speaker Series session of the semester! Our third virtual conversation will be on Tuesday, November 17th at 3pm. Mason Hilliard and Aaron Lay will be sharing their rural stories as leaders at Tennessee Tech.
Born and raised in Greenfield, Weakley County, Tennessee, Mason graduated from Tennessee Tech in Fall 2019 with a major in Political Science and a double minor in History and Communication Studies. He has previously served as the Student Government Association President and Student Trustee on the Board of Trustees. Mason is currently an undergraduate admissions counselor in the Office of Admissions and travels throughout West Tennessee to encourage students to enroll at Tech.
Aaron is a junior at Tennessee Tech from Madisonville, Tennessee, majoring in Agriculture Communications with a minor in Political Science. He currently serves as Student Body President in the Student Government Association. Aaron is also involved as a President’s Ambassador and as a Student Ambassador for the College of Agriculture and Human Ecology. Upon graduating, he aspires to work in legislative affairs on Capitol Hill before going to law school to practice agriculture and environmental law.
