    American Red Cross Blood Drive and Gift Card Drawing

    The Student Nurses’ Association is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive on Tuesday, March 30 from 10-3. The buses will be parked in front of the Volpe library.

    To schedule an appointment, please visit RedCrossBlood.org and enter sponsor code: TTU19. Those who register before the blood drive will be entered to win a $10 Starbucks gift card! The winner will be notified the day after the blood drive.

    Remember: one donation can save 3 lives! The American Red Cross is also screening for COVID-19 antibodies at this time.

    Virtual talk with Arun Gandhi: Nonviolence in a Violent World

    Arun Gandhi is the fifth grandson of India’s legendary leader, Mohandas K. “Mahatma” Gandhi. Grandfather taught Arun to understand nonviolence through understanding violence. “If we know how much passive violence we perpetrate against one another we will understand why there is so much physical violence plaguing societies and the world,” Gandhi said. Through lessons taught from his grandfather, Arun says, he learned about violence and about anger. Arun has dedicated his life in socio-political activism, including many projects for the social and economic uplifting of the oppressed using constructive programs, the backbone of Gandhi’s philosophy of nonviolence.

    The M.K. Gandhi Institute for Nonviolence in a nonprofit that equips people to use nonviolence to create a sustainable and just world for all and was founded by Arun and his wife, Sunanda, at Christian Brothers University in Memphis in 1991. They moved the institute to Rochester, NY in 2007 and while he is no longer formally involved in the Institute, Arun is an important elder, teacher and active participant. Author of several books and participant with many notable interfaith activities, be sure not to miss this opportunity to hear him address our campus community.

    Landscape Workshop’s paid internship program will provide students training in a wide array of departments including maintenance, enhancements, irrigation, seasonal color, and business development. Interns will work directly in the field at one of their branch locations under the guidance of a seasoned mentor for 8-12 weeks. Landscape Workshop will also be recruiting for their full-time field manager positions.

    Allyson Hobbs is the author of the award-winning book, A Chosen Exile: A History of Racial Passing in American Life. Hobbs examines the phenomenon of racial passing in the United States from the late eighteenth century to the present. Hobbs is Director of African and African-American studies at Stanford University. This is a Center Stage event co-sponsored by Dr. Julia Gruber, Multicultural Affairs, and the Women’s Center.     Did you accept a cooperative education position with an employer recently?  If you accepted a co-op OR are planning to in the near future, attend the Co-op Meetup on Monday, Mar. 8, which will be held virtually via TEAMS at 5 p.m. Any student interested in accepting a Cooperative Education position with an employer MUST attend a Co-op Meetup. The Co-op Meetup will explain the eligibility guidelines for enrolling in the Cooperative Education Program, which went into effect July 1, 2019 for all students.  Pre-registration to enroll in the Co-op Program is now required and attending a Co-op Meetup is your first step!  The eligibility guidelines can be found at: https://www.tntech.edu/career/students/coop-eligibility.php.
