The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be celebrating Chemists Celebrate Earth Week (CCEW) by giving away FREE 32 oz Nalgene water bottles, bamboo utensil sets, and silicone zip-top storage bags from 11 a.m. until noon (or while supplies last) in the main atrium of LSC. This year’s theme of CCEW is “Reducing our Footprint with Chemistry”. All of these items can be used to replace disposable options which helps to reduce plastic waste. Tennessee Tech ASBMB and WCTE Present Ken Burns, The Gene
The Student Members of the American Association of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology and WCTE invite you to attend a private viewing of the Ken Burns’ Documentary, The Gene, on Monday, April 26, at 7:00 PM. The event will be in Stonecipher Lecture Hall 128, and simultaneously online as well. The documentary discusses the science and history of the human gene and how we can utilize new technologies such as CRISPR to treat and cure diseases and solve the problems of the future.
The video is 45 minutes and will be followed by a discussion with Dr. Derek Cashman (Chemistry), Dr. Carla Hurt (Biology), and Dr. James Gray (retired MD).

Wear Denim on Wednesday to Raise Awareness!
Join the Women’s Center, Counseling Center, and Project AWAKEN in raising awareness of sexual assault by participating in Denim Day on Wednesday, April 28th! All you have to do is wear denim, share a picture on social media, and tag us for a chance to win a prize!
Why denim? Denim Day was originally triggered in the late 90s when a teenager who was sexually assaulted by her driver’s training instructor was blamed for her assault since she was wearing tight jeans. Denim Day started internationally in response to this case; wearing jeans annually on Denim Day has become a symbol of protest against erroneous and destructive attitudes about sexual assault.

The TN Tech Counseling Center will host Tea and T-shirts in the RUC lobby on Thursday, April 29 from 10:00am-2:00pm. This de-stress interactive tabling event will include Tea and T-shirt give-a-ways. Senior Thesis Exhibition by Tabitha Thierjung opens April 22 at Appalachian Center for Craft
Tabitha Thierjung will present “Going Through Spells,” taking place at the Appalachian Center for Craft in the Joe L. Evins Gallery on April 22 – May 3, 2021.
Going Through Spells will feature blown, sculpted, and fused glass pieces hand crafted by Tabitha. Take a moment to come by and join Tabitha on a journey to find magic in the mundane.
Due to the current restrictions with COVID-19, there will not be an opening reception. The gallery will be open Monday – Saturday, 10 – 5 a.m. and Sunday 12 – 5 p.m.

A Day Without Plants! April 22, 2021
This Earth Day, the Office of Sustainability will be attempting to go 24 hours without any help from the plant world, and we want you to join us! The goal of this activity will be to show just how reliant we all are on plants. Arbor Day Tree Scavenger Hunt, April 22-30
April 22nd through April 30th the Office of Sustainability is going to be hosting an Arbor Day Tree Scavenger Hunt. We have provided you with ten clues about ten different trees on campus! For the scavenger hunt, snap a picture with as many trees as you can identify from the clues and e-mail them to us at TTUGreen@tntech.edu . For extra points, post them on your Instagram and tag us @TNTechEcoEagles. Whoever submits the most trees wins! The winner will be announced May 3rd. SOLO Presents: Kofi & Awefa Mawuko with Ghanaian Drum Ensemble Sat Apr 24
Ghanaian master drummer Kofi Mawuko and expert dancer Awefa Mawuko join the Tennessee Tech Ghanaian Drum Ensemble for an hour of traditional music from Ghana, West Africa. The performance is Saturday, April 24, at 6 p.m., in Bryan Fine Arts Building Wattenbarger Auditorium. The event will offer both live-streaming and limited seating in accordance with CDC guidelines.
