The Denim Day campaign began as an international protest of a Court decision to overturn a rape conviction. The Italian Supreme Court dismissed charges against a rape suspect because his victim was wearing jeans at the time of the attack. The Head Judge argued, “Because the victim wore very tight jeans, she had to help him remove them… and by removing the jeans… it was no longer rape but consensual sex.” This sparked a worldwide outcry from those who understand coercion, threats and violence go along with the act of rape. Join Slalom Consulting, a global consulting organization in Nashville, for one of two information sessions being held on Monday, April 25, in the Tech Pride Room. The first session will last from 1:00 p.m. to 1:55 p.m. and the second will begin at 2:00 p.m. and end at 2:55 p.m.

Slalom is a modern consulting firm focused on strategy, technology, and business transformation. In 41 markets around the world, Slalom’s teams have autonomy to move fast and do what’s right.

Slalom will be discussing opportunities to join their global consulting organization, including a consulting development program called the Cloud Residency. This is an entry-level position in Nashville for Computer and Information Systems and Technology related majors.

The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be giving away 24oz Nalgene water bottles and stickers in the LSC atrium (by Einstein’s) on Thursday, April 21 at 11 a.m. in honor of Chemists Celebrate Earth Week. Reduce your plastic footprint by switching disposable water bottles for reusable ones! The event will last until all of the water bottles are gone so arrive early to ensure you get one. Hip, hip, hooray, it’s Earth Day! Join us for some eco-friendly STEM learning and fun!

STEM Fab Friday events are focused on getting families and their children engaged in STEM activities. There are two regularly scheduled events each semester held on Fridays from 5-8 pm. We look forward to having families enjoy time together while exploring new STEM concepts through hands-on activities.
A parent or guardian is expected to attend with the student(s). Students may not be left unattended.

On April 20th – an ominous date if you know your Austrian history – don’t miss your chance to meet the author of Der Struwwelpeter (1845), the oldest, bloodiest, and most controversial German children’s book of all times. Dr. Hoffmann and his attorney will face questions from superintendent Frau Schrecklich, the school board, and concerned parents in the audience, who want to keep German out of Kindergarten and ban this horrible book for good.

After two years of pandemic-related virtual content, German 2020 students happily return to the stage for the annual, QEP-sponsored theatrical production of “Der Struwwelpeter”.

Did you know that Mark Twain was not only fluent in German, but also provided one of the many English translations of Der Struwwelpeter? Did you know that The English Struwwelpeter was the first outstanding beneficiary of the first major convention on international copyright, concluded between Britain and Prussia in 1846? Did you know that there is a British Anti-Nazi propaganda version of the book, i.e. Hitlerstruwwelpeter, that Edward Scissorhands looks a lot like the kid on the cover, and that Rammstein wrote a song about one of the stories in the book? Well, now you know a fraction of what Germ2020 students have learned this semester.

“Critical Struwwelpeter Theory” is free and open to the public. We look forward to seeing you at the Backdoor Playhouse!
