The School of Agriculture Career Fair is 1 week away! Come see us on the third floor of the Roaden University Center to get your resume reviewed! Our staff can also share tips on how to navigate a career fair, how to dress, and what to say in your elevator pitch. Our walk-in hours are Monday-Thursday 1-4pm, or you can schedule an appointment on Handshake!

Rural Reimagined would like to recognize Dr. Katherine Hermann-Turner (Counseling and Psychology) and Dr. Jonathan Wiley (Counseling and Psychology) for receiving Level 2 funding ($2,500-$10,000) from our Faculty Grant Program. Dr. Hermann-Turner’s team proposed their project titled “Rural Mothers Birth Experiences,” which uses a qualitative phenomenological mythology study to explore how support systems for “postpartum women in rural communities could affect mothers’ perceptions of birthing experiences, with special attention to birth trauma,” by studying participant’s unique experiences. Their project could help local counselors better advocate and support women’s needs as well as potentially make changes to therapeutic services in rural Tennessee communities “and subsequently to women in rural communities across the country and the world.” We congratulate Drs. Hermann-Turner and Wiley and encourage other faculty members to submit their ideas in the future!

The FIRST Lego League East Tennessee Championship Tournament is Saturday, February 11 in the Memorial Gym.  This year we are expecting 48 teams of middle school students to participate.  That means we need a lot of volunteers in order to make it a successful and positive experience for all those involved.  This is hard work, but I promise it will be fun and rewarding!  It’s kind of like a carnival.  It just kind of springs up out of nowhere, everyone has a great time, and then it disappears until next year.  The kids are so happy and enthusiastic, it is contagious.  You will be amazed at what they can do and by the expressions on their faces.

This workshop will feature Russ Coughenour, Director for the Center of Career Development, as well as representatives from the Launchpad Advising Center, who will discuss the process of finding the right major for you if you are thinking of possibly switching majors and why this is beneficial for your ultimate career goals!
