Join us as we do hands on activities for people of all ages. We will be giving away copies of the Celebrating Chemistry magazine, safety glasses, and other fun chemistry swag. Pie a Professor Fundraiser for National Chemistry Week- Oct. 17
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society are hosting a Pie a Professor fundraiser for National Chemistry Week on Tuesday, Oct. 17 from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. on the LSC lawn. You can purchase a mini whipped cream pie for $2 (or 3 for $5!) to throw at the participating faculty and lab teaching assistants. All funds raised go toward supporting conference travel for students to present research. Questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com.

Medicinal Chemistry Webinar for National Chemistry Week- Oct. 16
Join the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) as we kick off National Chemistry Week! The theme this year is “The Healing Power of Chemistry” and focuses on health and medicine. On Monday, Oct. 16 at 6 p.m. in SLH 126 we will be showing the ACS webinar “Creating Psychedelic Analogs to Treat Neuropsychiatric Disease”. Join us at the Native Plant Garden
Please join the Department of Biology for a fun community event on October 28 from 9-3, where volunteers will help the TN Tech Native Plant Garden prepare for upcoming construction by transplanting plants for safekeeping. Volunteers will be able to obtain free plants for their own gardens in return for assisting us. Kids crafts, hot apple cider, baked goods, botanical art, and other demonstrations will be available throughout the day. The garden is located in between Johnson and Pennebaker Halls on campus. Wisdom for an Online Age with Guest Speaker Samuel James
Our digital devices are sources of information and entertainment, they allow us to stay in touch with
friends and family. But that’s not all. Smartphones and social media are linked to increased rates of depression, anxiety and loneliness. Even those who avoid mental health problems say their online experience leaves them “in some kind of spiritual and intellectual haze.”In this talk, Samuel James will help us understand how the internet affects us. He will show how Scripture offers wisdom for habits of resistance to the allures of our digital devices.
Samuel James is an editor for Crossway Books. He has written for The Wall Street Journal, National
Review, Time, First Things, and The Gospel Coalition.
