Calling all potential campus hosts: The Center Stage series is currently accepting proposal submissions for the 2022-23 academic year. Proposals are due Wednesday, December 1, 2021. As a head’s up, there have been a few changes to this year’s submission form. Also, due to recent procedure changes, no extensions will be granted for proposal submissions this year, so be sure to submit before or on December 1st! Proposals are now being accepted for the 2022-2023 academic year for faculty seeking Non-Instructional Faculty Assignments. The purposes of the non-instructional assignments are: to contribute to the professional growth of the faculty; to improve the teaching and the curriculum across the University; and/or to enhance the scholarship and academic excellence of the University in ways that cannot be accomplished under the constraints of the regular workload assignments. Submission Deadlines: Friday, Jan. 14, 2022 – Suggested Deadline for Proposals to Department Chairs; Friday, January 28, 2022 – Deadline for Proposals to Academic Affairs. We had a few hiccups but AIP (Adoptions Insights Portal) now has the Spring semester courses loaded. Please have professors or department admins go to AIP and submit book orders for the Spring semester. Remember, that AIP is accessible through Tech Express. Students begin registering for classes on Nov. 8th. HEOA (Higher Education Opportunity Act) requires that students be able to see what books are required for their class when they register. We are asking that all book orders be submitted by Nov. 7th. This will not only meet the HEOA guidelines but helps us with ordering used books for spring classes. As you know there is a quick turnaround between the end of fall term and the start of spring term. As soon as we receive your book order we will begin sourcing for used books. Ordering of custom books begins on Nov. 8th. and we will begin ordering books from publishers Nov. 15th. Some of you may have already emailed your book information to Shannon. That information is still being loaded into AIP and should be visible by Monday, Nov. 1st.

What a SPLASH! This fall break, Tennessee Tech had 12 scuba students participate in a trip to John Pennekamp State Park. The students specifically went to Key Largo’s marine sanctuary where they were able to complete check out dives. These are required in order to complete their Divemaster certification and consist of giving a guided dive. The students and instructors had a great time and after 17 dives overall, were able to gain 7 new open water divers as well as 2 advanced divers. These people consist of Taylor Erb, Julie Warmath, Luke Hicks, Chris Swindell, Riley Schrick, Abigail Sandman, Warren Carnes, and José Rodriquez. The students also participated in a deep dive of 102 ft and a thrilling night dive in the Atlantic Ocean. Students and instructors had loads of fun and look forward to their next trip where they will once again introduce new lives to the wonders of the Atlantic.
The First Horizon Foundation recently presented Tennessee Tech with a $6,000 gift to support the College of Business’s financial literacy program. First Horizon’s support will allow Tech to deliver a one-credit-hour course in spring 2022 titled Financial Literacy for Entrepreneurs. The course will emphasize practical financial skills for entrepreneurs, offering a high-level examination of financial statements, ratio analysis, time value of money and the essentials of starting a business in Tennessee. It will conclude with a panel discussion, consisting of entrepreneurs and individuals involved in debt and equity financing, which will be open to local community members. The class will also provide faculty and graduate assistants with the opportunity to engage in research to improve student outcomes related to financial literacy concepts.
EDGE: Enhanced Discovery through Guided Exploration is Tennessee Tech’s Quality Enhancement Plan. The EDGE Creative Inquiry Course Grant Program offers Faculty the opportunity to redesign undergraduate or graduate courses to include creative inquiry projects and assignments. In addition, the EDGE rubric is now an optional method of assessing student work – faculty may propose another method for assessment. The limit on individual course grants is $5,000. The limit on multiple-course curriculum grants is $15,000. November 5 is the application deadline.
