    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Dr. Anne Campbell, ONRL

    This Friday for the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar we will be visited by Dr. Anne Campbell, R&D Staff in the Advanced Nuclear Materials group at ORNL. In her talk The Changing Landscape of Nuclear Materials R&D, Dr. Campbell will discuss materials science for advanced nuclear reactors, highlighting the modern role of graphite, the first nuclear structural and moderating material. The seminar will be at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are encouraged to attend!

    Wire Wrapped Collar and Bracelet with Francesca Faucette

    The Appalachian Center for Craft will host a daylong workshop on Saturday, May 16, where attendees can learn the fundamentals of wire wrapping while creating both a bracelet and a V-collar necklace.

    Students will explore shaping, sizing, twisting, and finishing techniques using a variety of wire gauges and textures. The class emphasizes hands-on practice, teaching how to combine pieces into cohesive designs and experiment with scale, style, and detail. No prior experience is required, making this an approachable introduction to jewelry-making. Participants will leave with a finished bracelet and collar, new skills in wire manipulation, and the confidence to continue designing personalized pieces independently.

    Join us for “Food Pantry Palooza” benefiting the Michelle Huddleston Memorial Food Pantry on Monday, April 16, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Centennial Plaza. Bring five food donations to be entered for a giveaway.

    Autonomous Robotics Club Alumni Night

    You are invited to join the Autonomous Robotics Club on April 17th from 5–8 PM in the AIEB Atrium. This event will provide an opportunity to network with club alumni and current student members while learning more about the organization and its work.

    The evening will begin with dinner, followed by an alumni-student panel, and conclude with an open house of the club’s lab. During the open house, attendees will have the chance to explore current projects and learn more about the club’s history and ongoing initiatives.

    Frames in a Day with Alexandra Mavrikis

    Looking for a custom frame perfectly sized for family photos, keepsakes, diplomas, or original artwork? The Appalachian Center for Craft will host a daylong “Frames in a Day” workshop on Saturday, May 16. In this workshop, participants will design and build small solid-wood frames, carving and decorating them before finishing with paint. Students will learn to use a variety of woodworking tools—including the jointer, planer, bandsaw, drill press, jigsaw, router, gouges, and sanders—to bring their ideas to life. Each participant will leave with a unique, hand-crafted frame and new skills in woodworking.
