    Mask Design Contest Hosted by SMACS

    The Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) is hosting a mask design contest from Sept. 28 – Oct. 4. Bags with white cotton masks, fabric markers, and contest directions will be given out on Monday, Sept. 28 from 10:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the corner of Foster (corner of University Dr and Peachtree). In case of rain we will be giving out the supplies in the RUC by the caf. There are three categories to compete in: Tech themed, Science themed, and General. Submission can be made via Instagram or sent our email at smacsttu@gmail.com. All contest submissions must be received by Sunday, Oct. 4 to be considered. If you are not able to pick up your supplies on Monday please email us to arrange a pick up. The winner in each category will receive a $10 gift card. This event was funded by SOLO and is open to all Tech students.

    oSTEM Meeting Sept 29

    Out in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (oSTEM) will have a meeting on Tuesday, Sept. 29 in Foster 233 at 11 a.m. We will be discussing upcoming events for the semester, as well as generating new ideas for other events the members would like to particpate in. The club is open to all LGBTQI+ students, faculty, and staff, as well as allies. All majors are welcome. There is also an option to attend the meeting virtually via Zoom.     Rural Reimagined Club Meets on Tuesday 9/29 at 11 am!

    The Rural Reimagined Club will be meeting be virtually via Zoom on Tuesday, September 29th, at 11 am.

    Rural Reimagined is Tennessee Tech’s Grand Challenge initiative to transform rural living through science, technology, research, and entrepreneurship. We are open to ALL majors, and we hope that through our club we can help you truly become advocates for rural communities by connecting you with opportunities to serve rural areas.

    STEM 4 ALL initiative recipient of the 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award

    The Oakley STEM Center is honored to be one of the recipients of the 2020 Inspiring Programs in STEM Award by INSIGHT Into Diversity Magazine for their STEM 4 All Initiative. This award recognizes unique and innovative efforts for improving access to science, technology, engineering, and math for underrepresented students. These exceptional programs are dedicated to introducing and encouraging students of all ages and at all levels of education to pursue exciting academic opportunities and careers in these vital disciplines.

    STEM 4 ALL is an inclusive program for K-12 students as well as adults with intellectual disabilities. Tennessee Tech faculty, STEM majors, and teacher candidates co-plan and co-teach STEM activities for participants and their families. The overall goal of STEM 4 ALL is to motivate this underserved student population to learn more about and pursue STEM disciplines.

    The National Science Foundation recently announced the fall deadlines for students to apply to the Graduate Research Fellowship program. Applications for this program are submitted directly by the student in the research.gov GRFP Application Module (https://www.research.gov/grfp/Login.do); however, we ask that all students planning to apply contact Jamie Murdock at (jlmurdock@tntech.edu) so we can ensure that all applicable internal paperwork is prepared prior to submission.     During dead hour today, the National Society of Black Engineers will have a General Body meeting. This will be held virtually via Microsoft teams.     On September 24th from 11 to 12 (dead hour) in the Multi-purpose Room in the RUC, panelists with different jobs will speak about their careers as well as their experiences in the workplace. Time will be given at the end for audience questions. Boxed lunches will be given to all who attend. We will also have a drawing for Eagle’s Flight swag after the presentation.     Virtual Career Fair CRAM-A-THON Sessions being offered by Career Development beginning Sept. 28 through Oct. 1

    Are you planning to attend the upcoming STEM – Engineering Fair on Oct. 6 OR the Business, Agriculture, Government, and Human Ecology Fair on Oct. 8?  You do not want to miss the Virtual Career Fair CRAM-A-THON Sessions offered by the Center for Career Development!  These sessions will be no more than a half hour long PLUS they are offered over three days at varying times to accommodate your schedule!

    Join a session to find answers about how to access the fairs, how to select times to meet with recruiters, and how to prepare for the day of the fair!  Bring your questions and join in the conversation!
