TTU Percussion Club Hosts Donation Drive

On Thursday, December 3rd, the TTU Percussion Club is teaming up with local non-profit, Upper Cumberland Foster Closet, to host a donation drive. This event will be from 3:00pm – 5:00pm at Centennial Plaza and will feature live Christmas music by the TTU Percussion Ensemble.

When children are placed in a foster home, they often arrive with only the clothes on their backs. While financial assistance is provided, sometimes there is a delay between accepting children and receiving funds to help support them. The Upper Cumberland Foster Closet attempts to bridge this gap. UCFC acts as a resource that foster families can quickly visit upon receiving a placement and get items these children need such as: clothing, shoes, car seats, and other basic needs, free of charge. Through the generous donation of these items from our local community, foster families will be able to use their own resources in other ways while the children are in their homes.

    Needed Donation Items:
Clothes for kids and teens, booster seats / car seats, newborn diapers or pull-ups, new packs of underwear/panties, new packs of socks, backpacks, bunk beds, baby carriers, diaper cream, toothbrushes, lunchboxes, and *cash donations* (preferred).

Support University Archives & Special Collections on Giving Tuesday

Giving Tuesday is an international day of giving celebrated on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving each year.  This year, Tech’s Giving Tuesday will feature University Archives & Special Collections.

Walking into University Archives is like stepping back in time. It’s a view into the Tennessee Tech of the past. Comprised of more than 3,300 cubic square feet of manuscripts, photographs, and archives from Tennessee Tech and the Upper Cumberland, Archives makes materials accessible digitally and on site. But what University Archives has done for the Golden Eagle community in 2020 is remarkable. From helping the Mar. 3 tornado survivors recover and restore lost items to documenting the COVID-19 pandemic, they are a valuable resource for Tech and the Upper Cumberland.

Join us on Dec. 1 in saying thanks for everything they do to help our students, alumni and community. We recognize many nonprofits are participating in Giving Tuesday this year. But if supporting Tech is on your mind, we hope you’ll consider a gift to University Archives & Special Collections to ensure Tech’s history is preserved for the Golden Eagles of tomorrow.

Virtual Research and Creative Inquiry Day set for April 2021

Research and Creative Inquiry Day is an annual event designed to promote undergraduate and graduate student research and creative inquiry and provide a venue for presenting that work. The 16th annual event will be held in April 2021. Due to the ongoing pandemic, we are moving forward with a digital/virtual format.

The abstract submission portal will be open from Monday, Feb. 1, through Wednesday, March 10. Abstract guidelines can be found on the Office of research https://www.tntech.edu/research/research-day/index.php.

Please share this information with your students and consider including information related to Research and Creative Inquiry Day, as appropriate, in your spring course syllabi. Faculty will receive an email at the beginning of the spring semester providing additional event information and inviting you to participate as a Research and Creative Inquiry Day judge.

  • Annual Security Awareness Training Reminder

As the holidays are quickly approaching, we wanted to remind you all of your annual Security Awareness Training. Currently, only 35% have completed this training, which is due by December 31, 2020 11:59 PM. Statistically, this is the worst time of year to be caught by phishing emails and scams. We hope this training will help you keep a sharp eye out for incoming malicious campaigns. The training is accessible from the TechExpress card & “Be Aware” quick link, as well as the “Annual Security Awareness Training” link from the Employee tab in SSB.

Thank you, and continue to Be Aware & Stay Aware!
