    Tennessee Tech’s PSI CHI and Psychology club will be hosting a fundraiser to support,  We will be doing a haunted, paranormal tour of Mathews Daniels hall on October thirteenth starting at 6:30 P.M. with Professor Doug. Tickets will be sold at the door of Mathews Daniels for $5, and all proceeds will go to psychology students participating in the Association for psychology of science research convention.     Success Story: Eagle Works 2022 Maker Challenge

    On October 6, the Eagle Works Maker Challenge introduced 25 students to the Innovation & Entrepreneurship initiative. Students were divided into teams and challenged with: “If you were stranded on a deserted island, how would you either survive or escape it?” Using materials like PVC pipe, duct tape, Play-Doh, and coffee filters, the teams had one hour to design, create, and present a prototype. Students received giveaway items, food, t-shirts, and $50 scholarships for prize categories including “Most likely to be on Survivor” and “Most inspirational karaoke opportunity.” Rural Outreach Coordinator Andrea Kruszka says, “Eagle Works is for students across campus. We encourage interdisciplinary teams since that is the reality of life post-graduation.” The Maker Challenge kicks off an exciting year of Eagle Works activities!     Senior Salute Today for December Graduating Seniors!

    December graduates, please join us on Thursday, Oct. 13 from 7:30 a.m. through 6 p.m. for Senior Salute, located in the large gym inside the Burnett Student Recreation & Fitness Center. This will be your one-stop shop to get everything you need to prepare for the December 9 commencement ceremonies, including picking up your cap and gown, ordering class rings and invitations, connecting with the Alumni Center, getting help with career plans and more.   • Brief Closure for Access to Dixie from East Dorm Parking Areas Saturday October

    Tennessee Tech is the starting point for the annual Haunted Half Marathon this coming Saturday, October 15.  Due to the starting point on Dixie Avenue and the race route, vehicular access to Dixie Avenue from the east dorms will be temporarily unavailable on the morning of the race from about 5:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m.  East dorm traffic will need to exit the dorm parking areas via 9th Avenue only.  Contact University Police at 372-3234 with questions.

    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Richard Mitchell, TTU Physics

    This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will feature work from Physics Major Richard Mitchell. His talk, Integral Method for Fitting Nuclear Decay Chains, will present updates on his development of a new technique for determining radioactive half-lives from complex, low-statistics data sets. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210. (Snacks will be served starting at 3:30pm.) These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!

    Join the Student Members of the American Chemical Society in celebrating National Chemistry Week from Oct 12th-17th!

    Our first event is the Green Chemistry Talk on October 12th at 6:30 p.m. This event will be held in LSC 1211. Come learn about the 12 principles of green chemistry!

    In collaboration with the Office of Sustainability, there will be a Sustainability Day Tabling Event hosted on Centennial Plaza on October 13th from 10:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Learn about different ways to live more sustainability.

    The Mole Day race will also be held on October 13th from 5-7 p.m. in the HOOP. Come walk a mole of zeptometers(602 m) around the top of the Hoop.

    Rural Reimagined to Provide $150,000 in Faculty Funding Support

    Rural Reimagined is excited to announce that it will be granting over $150,000 to TN Tech faculty members to help support rural-related projects! Involving faculty in the efforts to serve our rural communities perpetuates generations of impact as it educates and inspires their students to do the same. Regarding the importance of partnering with TTU faculty, Grand Challenge Committee faculty chair Dr. Jeff Boles states, “Faculty-led projects that examine and propose solutions to challenges in rural communities provide students an additional educational experience, one that also has the potential to culturally enrich their lives. Involvement in TTU’s Grand Challenge helps create the Tech of tomorrow.” Currently, Rural Reimagined is developing an application and peer reviewed proposal process. If you are a TTU faculty member that would like to be considered a recipient, please expect another announcement via Tech Times for our application. We are excited to hear about your vision for our rural communities and continue our mission through you!
