Paid Parental Leave
The Office of Human Resources is exited to announce that as of July 1, 2023, eligible TTU faculty and staff are entitled to six (6) weeks of Paid Parental Leave within the first twelve (12) months following childbirth or adoption. The Paid Parental Leave Policy supports the University’s work-life balance efforts to support employees during one of the most important phase of their lives. An email has been sent out from the Office of Human Resources with more information.

General Complaint Reporting – Summer 2023
General Complaint Reporting
In addition to the Fraud, Waste, or Abuse reporting form, Tennessee Tech also has a form on Internal Audit’s website for confidentially reporting complaints about accounting, internal control, auditing matters, code of conduct, discrimination/harassment/retaliation, and other issues that are NOT fraud, waste, or abuse. Complainants remain COMPLETELY ANONYMOUS to Internal Audit unless the last section of the form is completed. General complaints received on this form are routed to appropriate campus departments for follow-up.
The form can be submitted online or completed, printed, and mailed to Internal Audit, PO Box 5154, Cookeville, TN 38505.

Budget Office Deadline
Good afternoon everyone,
Just a reminder that all carryover requests are due to the budget office by 7-31-23.
Here are the accounts/indexes that do not require a memo and the budget office will automatically review and add to the list for consideration for funding (depending on the dollars available):

- Any current Fee indexes (SAF, Online Fee)

- Any Revenue and Expense offset (Any indexes that are directly tied to a fee IE. Farm, Stem workshop, lab manuals)

- Indirect Cost, Match, Fixed Rate Contracts, Faculty Research

- Lapse Salary Pools

- Engineering $3M
-
- Summer School Indexes
Open Purchase Orders
Restricted Indexes will automatically carryover. This process usually happens in September for restricted indexes.
Any other accounts will require a carryforward memo to be submitted. The carryovers that are approved will be communicated during the October Revised Budget Cycle in early October.

Campus researchers invited to Science DMZ ribbon-cutting, orientation July 26
A new research network called Science DMZ is set to launch at Tennessee Tech.
The official opening and an orientation session for users will take place July 26 from 3:30-4:30 p.m. at Stonecipher Lecture Hall room 126. Researchers and administrators are invited to attend the ribbon-cutting ceremony and learn about accessing this specialized network.
“The Science DMZ is an advanced network architecture designed to optimize data transfer and collaboration among researchers, institutions and external partners,” Computer Science Assistant Professor Susmit Shannigrahi said. “It offers an efficient, secure and high-bandwidth pathway for transferring large datasets.”

ACS Student Chapter Featured in Chemical and Engineering News
The Tennessee Tech chapter of the Student Members of the American Chemical Society (SMACS) was recently featured in an edition of Chemical & Engineering News (C&EN), which is a weekly news magazine published by the American Chemical Society that provides professional and technical news in the field of chemistry and chemical engineering. The SMACS chapter was highlighted for their work with the Nashville ACS Local Section for celebrating Chemists Celebrate Earth Week in April. SMACS and the Nashville local section hosted a booth at the Nashville Earth Day Celebration in Centennial Park where they helped people make alginate gels and spheres, and explore the properties of algae. These activities were part of the Curious Chemistry of Amazing Algae theme that highlighted the emergence of algae as one of the most promising long-term, sustainable sources of food, feed, and other co-products. Tennessee Tech Physics Majors in Taiwan
Three Tennessee Tech Physics majors accompanied by Dr. Mary Kidd attended the Partnerships for International Research and Education: Germanium Materials and Detectors Advancement Research Consortium (PIRE-GEMADARC) Summer School hosted by Academia Sinica in Taipei, Taiwan. Pictured are Joel Watson, Caleb Eldridge, Mary Kidd, and Ethan White at a scenic overlook on the east coast of Taiwan. Starting in 2018, PIRE-GEMADARC has hosted a summer school and international undergraduate research experience. The summer school specializes in teaching about the uses of germanium detectors in physics experiments involving double-beta decay and the direct detection of dark matter and is attended by students worldwide. Participants attended seminar-style lectures on germanium detectors, neutrino physics, dark matter, and cosmology. In addition, our hosts planned multiple cultural and scientific excursions. The students will remain in Taipei completing their research experience until July 21!

Music City Drum Corps Final Run-Through
If you haven’t been able to check-out a Music City Drum Corps rehearsal yet, there is still time! Prior to leaving our campus on July 3rd, Music City Drum Corps will be performing a final run-through of their 2023 show in Tucker Stadium this Saturday, July 1st, at 8pm.
Music City Drum Corps is a touring marching band from Nashville, TN and are comprised of brass, percussion, and color guard members. Participants are ages 16-21 and spend their summer traveling the country, competing in DCI competitions.
We are excited to host this world-class ensemble on Tech’s campus and hope you can come check it out!

New University and Foundation Sales Tax Exemptions Effective 7/1/2023
The current University and Foundation sales tax exemption forms will expire on June 30, 2023. Beginning July 1, 2023, please request the new sales tax exemption forms by emailing salestaxform@tntech.edu. All previous sales tax exemption forms should no longer be used after June 30, 2023. Please remember that any new vendor forms must be completed by the Business Office and should not be modified or altered.
