    The Student Nurses’ Association is hosting an American Red Cross blood drive this Thursday, November 4th from 10-4 in the Tech Pride Room. Come donate blood and save three lives!

    Join us on November 4th at 11 am for the next session in our Research 101 workshop series- Best Practices in Proposal Development. During this session, participants will learn about the best practices in proposal development. Included in these best practices are:

      • know the funder and understand the competition process
      • understand the importance of solicitation
      • develop a realistic timeline
      • navigate the toolkit
      • when and how to contact a program officer
      • identify key aspects of budget development

      • the importance of detailed budget justification

    Friday Focus: IDEA / SLO Evaluations

    Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on a different resource, tool, or program available to faculty. During this session, Dr. Kevin Harris, the Associate Director of the Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, and Effectiveness (IARE) will provide an overview of the University course evaluation process, called IDEA. He will discuss how to select appropriate Student Learning Outcomes (SLOs) prior to student completion of the IDEA evaluations and provide tips on how to garner a good response rate.     Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Kaitlyn Kidwell, TTU Physics

    This week in the Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar, physics major Kaitlyn Kidwell will present on her work studying a potential background in experiments that search for neutrinoless double beta decay in germanium. In her talk Neutron Inelastic Scattering of 76Ge Coincidence Analysis, Kaitlyn will describe the experiment she conducted this summer on the Duke University campus at the Triangle Universities Nuclear Laboratory and her ongoing work analyzing the resulting coincidence gamma ray spectra. The seminar will be this Friday, November 5th at 4pm in Volpe Library 248. It will be geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend!     It’s the holiday season! Celebrate by visiting the Craft Center for the annual Holiday Festival coming up November 19-21. Receive discounts on all handmade items in the Gallery – Friday, November 19, 3-7 p.m. get 30% off; Saturday, November 20, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. get 25% off; and Sunday, November 21, noon – 5 p.m. get 25% off.

    You can sign up to participate in workshops Saturday, November 20. Create your choice of ceramic ornaments, origami books, blown glass ornaments, enameled copper ornaments and carved wood ornaments.     Budget Office training sessions for November have been scheduled if anyone is interested! Below is a brief description of each training:

     

    General Budget Training: This training gives a big picture overview of the university budget, Banner screens, and budget revisions. This training is required for signature authority on budget revisions.

    Budget Banner Screen Training: This training focuses specifically on the Banner screens frequently used for budgeting purposes. This is an optional training course.

    Budget Shadow System Training: This training focuses specifically on our Shadow System Template. This is an optional training course.

    Win $1000 at the Eagle Works Idea Challenge!

    This is your last chance to sign up for the Eagle Works Idea Challenge! Register by Friday, Nov. 5 for your chance at a piece of $1,500 in prizes. Join us (virtually!) on Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m. to pitch your best creative, innovative idea that would help solve a problem!

    Who: All students, all programs, across campus!

    What: Come up with an idea for a product, business, service, etc. Give a 90 second pitch to our panel of judges and compete for $1,500 in prizes!

    Why: Creative problem solving, gain confidence, share an idea, win prizes, and have fun!

    When: Wednesday, Nov. 10 at 5 p.m.

    Where: Wherever you are! This year’s challenge is virtual!

    Students can compete alone or in teams, and will have 90 seconds to pitch their idea – no PowerPoint, no Q&A. Your idea doesn’t need to be fully thought out, but it should be feasible and solve a problem. Get creative and think big!

    Virtual pitch practices are Wednesday, Nov. 3 and Monday, Nov. 8 at 5 p.m.

  • Submit Spring Book Orders to the Bookstore by Nov. 7th

    Hello!

    We had a few hiccups but AIP (Adoptions Insights Portal) now has the Spring semester courses loaded. Please have professors or department admins go to AIP and submit book orders for the Spring semester. Remember, that AIP is accessible through Tech Express.  Students begin registering for classes on Nov. 8th. HEOA (Higher Education Opportunity Act) requires that students be able to see what books are required for their class when they register. We are asking that all book orders be submitted by Nov. 7th. This will not only meet the HEOA guidelines but helps us with ordering used books for spring classes. As you know there is a quick turnaround between the end of fall term and the start of spring term. As soon as we receive your book order we will begin sourcing for used books. Ordering of custom books begins on Nov. 8th. and we will begin ordering books from publishers Nov. 15th. Some of you may have already emailed your book information to Shannon. That information is still being loaded into AIP and should be visible by Monday, Nov. 1st.

    Purple Career Readiness Workshop on Nov 2: How to Make a Presentation

    Join the Center for Career Development on Tuesday, Nov. 2, beginning at 11 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for this Purple Career Readiness Workshop! Scott Christen, Ph.D., Associate Professor of Communication Studies, will be showing the best ways to effectively communicate your message through a successful presentation.

     

    This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.
