Understanding Nonprofits: Organization and Leadership
Join us for Session 1 of the CPRS Academy’s “Understanding Nonprofits: Organization & Leadership” credential on Friday, June 26, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Center for Addiction Prevention & Support. This session, led by Dorian Hines of the Tennessee Nonprofit Network, will provide a practical foundation on how nonprofit organizations function. Participants interested in completing the full credential can sign up to attend two additional online training sessions.

July 26 Daylong Workshop: It’s Okay to Be Square
Learn to turn a square platter while exploring woodturning techniques, including the distinctions between round and square turning. This hands-on workshop covers safety, proper tool usage and sharpening. If time permits, students can practice embellishment techniques or turn a second platter. Some prior woodturning experience is required. By the end of the class, participants will leave with at least one finished square platter, enhanced turning skills, and the confidence to experiment with more complex shapes in future projects. July 26 Daylong Workshop: Exploring Shibori
Immerse yourself in the Japanese art of bound-resist dyeing using folding, clamping, binding, and wrapping techniques. Students will experiment with fiber-reactive and acid dyes, exploring pattern creation on both silk and cotton fabrics. By the end of the workshop, participants will take home a finished silk scarf, a cotton bandanna, and an assortment of one-of-a-kind samples. Students will gain a strong foundation in shibori techniques while being inspired to incorporate these methods into their own textile work. OCM/Printing Services End of Year Deadline: June 12
The Office of Communications and Marketing has set the project submission deadline as June 12, 2026 for FY26 projects. This applies to Web and Digital Media requests, Printing Services requests, Photo/Video requests, and Creative Services requests. If you have projects that need to be paid for and completed before the end of fiscal year, please submit by June 12. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee the work will get completed in time to charge via IDT before the end of the fiscal year.

July 19 – 24 Weeklong Workshop: Pottery Boot Camp
This beginner to advanced level workshop teaches students the technical skills needed to work on the pottery wheel. Beginners will learn the introductory basics needed to create cups, mugs, bowls, vases, and more. Advanced students will get individual guidance to help reinforce their foundational knowledge and will be guided through more advanced techniques (such as “thrown and altered” shapes and composite/assembled forms). Class time will include demonstrations, guided practice time, and one-on-one help. July 19-24 Weeklong Workshop: Portraits and Process
Explore portrait photography through both digital and analog approaches. In this hands-on workshop, participants will work with studio lighting, available light, and on-location setups to create expressive portraits. We’ll cover essential digital workflow and Photoshop editing, then introduce large-format photography using a 4×5 camera. After developing the film, participants will scan their negatives and prepare final images for inkjet printing. Open to photographers of all experience levels. Students are encouraged to bring a DSLR camera if they have one, but cameras will be available in the studio. Computer science department produces award-winning coin for graduates
Tech’s Department of Computer Science received a Tennessee College Public Relations Association bronze communication award in the specialty item category for a custom challenge coin — one of 12 awards Tech received this year and the department’s sixth since 2024. The silver coin features graphics representing Tech’s computer science and AI majors and cybersecurity and high-performance computing concentrations, and commemorates the department’s 40th anniversary. Notice to submit Foundation gifts
Please submit Foundation cash gifts to University Advancement by noon, June 29. Timely submissions allow us to acknowledge donors promptly and enter the gifts by the end of the fiscal year.
Staff members who accept tangible property must submit a gift-in-kind form documenting the donation. If your department has accepted any items from a donor, alum, or business this fiscal year, please submit a gift-in-kind form no later than Wednesday, June 24.
