Chemistry Students Selected for ACS Leadership Award
The Department of Chemistry would like to recognize two of our of students for receiving the Student Leadership Award from the American Chemical Society. Recipients of this award are selected from competitive pools of students from United States and international universities based on their leadership skills and extracurricular activities. The students selected possess the skills and potential to become future leaders within the ACS professional society.
Courtney LaPointe, a senior chemistry major from Hendersonville, TN, was one of 21 students to receive the award and attend the ACS virtual Leadership Institute in 2021. Rebecca Firth, a junior chemistry major from Kingsport, TN, was one of 16 students selected to receive the award in 2022, and she will be attending the Leadership Institute in Atlanta, GA in January.
The Leadership Institute is an invitation-only conference that allows students to attend workshops and network with other student leaders from around the world, as well as ACS leaders from local sections, technical divisions, and the ACS national board.

Friday Focus: Dossier Prep
Friday Focus sessions are designed to provide just-in-time resources and information for faculty throughout the semester. Each session focuses on a different resource, tool, or program available to faculty. During this session, Dr. Bedelia Russell will provide information on dossier preparation. She will discuss upcoming deadlines and opportunities for New Faculty. Join us on Friday, January 7th at 11 AM via Microsoft Teams.

Tech men’s basketball contest versus Morehead State postponed
The Tennessee Tech men’s basketball team’s Ohio Valley Conference game against Morehead State, originally scheduled for Thursday, has been postponed due to Tennessee Tech COVID-19 protocols.
Consistent with OVC basketball rescheduling policy, the contest will be rescheduled for the first available Monday makeup window. The contest will now be held on Monday, Jan. 31, 2022 at 6:00 p.m. CT.
The Tech men will now open its OVC season on Saturday, Jan. 8 with a home contest at the Hooper Eblen Center against Eastern Illinois at 3:00 p.m.
The Golden Eagle women’s contest against Morehead State is still set for its scheduled date and time of Thursday, Jan. 6 at 5:30 p.m. in the Eblen Center.

iLearn: Managing Combined Courses
Are you teaching multiple sections of a course? Have an undergraduate and graduate section that use similar material? Is there an Honors student in your general section? You can combine these courses into one section to provide one set of material as well as provide additional material for those who need it. In this session, we will show you how to use the tools in iLearn to help manage these types of courses. Join the staff of the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on Wednesday, January 5th at 11 am.

The Content tool in iLearn is relatively simple and straightforward. In this workshop, we will cover the basics as well as demonstrate some other things you can do in the Content area.
