Call for EDGE QEP curriculum grant applications for Spring 2021
EDGE: Enhanced Discovery through Guided Exploration is TTU’s Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP). The EDGE Creative Inquiry Curriculum Grant Program offers faculty the opportunity to redesign and enrich their undergraduate courses with creative inquiry projects. Individual or joint proposals for the spring 2021 semester are welcome. The limit on each proposal is $5,000. The deadline for submission of proposals is October 23.

Rural Reimagined: Faculty Involvement
Many TN Tech faculty have already made impacts on our rural areas and been involved with Rural Reimagined through rural-related grants, research, and coursework. Rural Reimagined wants to recognize all faculty who have or are currently working on rural-related research or coursework. If you have received a rural-related grant, are currently working on a proposal for rural-related research, or have included/plan to include rural-based objectives into your coursework, please email Kinsey Potter at sw-kbpotter@tntech.edu. It is very important to the Grand Challenge: Rural Reimagined to recognize your impacts on our rural areas, and we want to share your work in order to inspire our campus community to get further involved in transforming rural living.

Spooky Movie Night!
Psi Chi and Psychology Club are throwing a spooky movie night in the spirit of Halloween! Bring your friends and a blanket to watch Night of the Living Dead with us at East Sherlock Park from 6-8pm on Thursday October 15th! Non-psychology majors bring 2 canned goods for entry. There will be candy goodie bags for everyone and costume wearing is highly encouraged!

The award honors a faculty member who displays outstanding mentorship, integrating scholarship, research and teaching excellence. Rural Journeys Speaker Series
The Rural Reimagined Club and TAB is proud to announce our Rural Journeys Speaker Series for this semester. Our first virtual conversation will be on Tuesday, October 6th at 3pm. Dawson Davidson and Becky Magura will both be speaking about their experience in rural. Dawson Davidson is a sophomore Agriculture Business Management major here at Tech and has built a career from his national winnings with his poultry. He’s a TV host and specializes in agricultural advocacy. Becky Magura has served on the PBS Board of Directors since 2014 and has BS and MA degrees in Education from Tech. As General Manager for WCTE, she secured the station’s downtown studio and offices and has many awards and other experiences to her name. Missing fall football? Miss hearing the sounds of the Golden Eagle Marching Band? Join the TTU drumline for a spirited performance in Centennial Plaza on Tuesday, October 6 at 11:20 a.m. The TTU drumline is directed by Mr. Jayce Clemons and is comprised of music majors and non-majors alike.

30th Anniversary of Black Cultural Center
Thirty years ago, three black student leaders began having a discussion with then President, Dr. Angelo Volpe, to find a place for them to have support for one another and programming. The Black Cultural Center was established in 1989, opening its doors officially in August of 1990. In the spring of 1996, black students and staff voted to rename the Cultural Center after Leona Lusk Officer, the first black graduate of Tennessee Tech. She graduated from Tech in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education. Thirty years of support, education, networking, and celebration.
During this pandemic era, we are not going to let that stop us from celebrating. For the Fall 2020 semester, we hope you join us for virtual programming, discussions, and events. We hope to be able to celebrate in-person this spring. Check out our BCC 30th Anniversary website for more details!

SEDS Flat Earth Viewing
Join Students for the Exploration and Development of Space, Wednesday October 7th at 7pm in Prescott 215, for a viewing of the hit documentary “Behind the Curve.” Hear the argument, weigh the data, and come to your own conclusion. Individual bags of Chips and Cans of soda will be provided to maintain Covid-19 Standards. We hope to see you there for a fun afternoon. Information on our current projects and what we are as a club will also be provided. Including our rocket academy, in which we walk new members through there NAR level one flight. Also, our prep flight of our eventual circumnavigation flight of a weather balloon will be discussed briefly at this meeting.

Student Success Story: PhD Graduate Conducts Practicum Hours Through RR
Rural Reimagined is excited to announce that an Exceptional Learning Ph.D. student, Vincent Okot, will conduct practicum hours assisting with a rural tourism development project through the Center for Rural Innovation. With his skill sets from the Program Planning & Evaluation (PPE) program in the College of Education, Vincent plans to use qualitative methods to help develop a tourism brand for the town of Monterey, TN. He will work with the Tennessee Department of Tourism to develop a visualization model to foster emerging tourism in rural areas. Vincent states, “I am very excited to work with Rural Reimagined, and I believe this opportunity will allow me to use the knowledge gained in PPE coursework. As I work on the project, I hope to develop a tourism brand for the City of Monterey.” His project directly aligns with the mission of the Center for Rural Innovation, the Rural Reimagined Grand Challenge, and the TCRI CARES project.
