“I Heart Tech Students” Spotlight: Scarlett and Murphy’s Clothes Closet
The Scarlett and Murphy’s Business Professional Clothes Closet provides students with resources and training to prepare them for job interviews, networking opportunities, presentations and conference participation. Stocked with new and gently used professional attire, Scarlett and Murphy’s allows students to check out clothing for an event or for the entire semester. The students who staff Scarlett and Murphy’s also provide guidance on acceptable attire. But Scarlett and Murphy’s needs donor support to purchase hard-to-fit sizes and assist with dry cleaning and alternations.

University Advancement Welcomes Brianna Young
Brianna Young has been named assistant director for financial services in University Advancement. Brianna graduated from Tennessee Tech in 2014 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting and earned her MBA in 2015 from Tech as well. She previously worked in the Tennessee Tech Business Office as a financial management analyst. Most recently, she worked for the Tennessee Board of Regents as the sole accountant for four Tennessee College of Applied Technology (TCAT) locations. Brianna will begin her new role at Tech on Feb. 28.

Save the date! Wings Up Weekend, a celebration of all things purple and gold, will be April 8-10 this year, and there’s something for everyone! There will be softball games, a football scrimmage, Backdoor Playhouse productions, Legacy Gala, Window on the World, a CEE golf outing and more! Spring 2022 Research 101: Post-Award Management
Once you receive word that a proposal is funded, what are the next steps? Join the Office of Research and the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFE) for this session on Thursday, February 24th at 11 AM. During this session, we will walk you through the post-award roles and responsibilities. Items to be covered include award activation, project and budget revisions, and project closeout. Beginners’ French Conversation Hour on Thursday, February 24!
Come and practice your French at Beginners’ Conversation Hour on Thursday, February 24 from 11-11:45 in Oakley 214. Organized and run by students, French Conversation Hour is open to all speakers of French, regardless of level, and uses games and activities to help everyone get involved. The atmosphere is fun, laid-back, and designed to help you feel as comfortable as possible speaking French.

The 2022 Derryberry Award nomination deadline is Wednesday, March 2. This award was established in honor of the late Everett Derryberry after 34 years as president of Tennessee Tech. This prestigious honor grants a plaque and cash award to a graduating senior who demonstrates a high level of scholastic achievement and successful campus involvement in leadership and enrichment opportunities. Susan Luna-Hazlewood named Associate Athletic Director for Development
Susan Luna-Hazlewood has been named Tennessee Tech’s new Associate Athletic Director for Development, effective Feb. 28.
Susan’s fundraising career began with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra in Charleston, South Carolina, and continued with the Bryan Symphony Orchestra here in Cookeville, where she oversaw all fundraising activities along with ticket sales, patron services and guest musician relations.
In 2016, Susan became the Senior Director of Individual Giving with the Tennessee Performing Arts Center in Nashville. In 2021, Susan relocated to Cookeville and joined WCTE as Director of Development and Marketing.
Susan graduated from Tech in 2007 with a bachelor’s degree in psychology. She also earned a Master of Public Administration Degree from the College of Charleston as well as a Certificate in Non-Profit Fundraising. She holds certification as a Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) and serves on the Tennessee Tech Alumni Association Board of Directors.
