March Water Week Creative Writing Contest!
CALLING ALL WRITERS!
The Office of Sustainability is hosting our second annual Creative Writing Contest for this year’s Water Week (March 21-25)! We are open to all forms of creative writing, such as short stories, plays, poems, comics, etc. The only criteria is that your work must be centered on the theme of WATER and be no longer than 1,000 words!
Submissions opened March 7th and will close on March 25th! We cannot wait to see what you come up with!
Oh, and the winner will receive a sustainability gift bag and be featured on our website and social media!!

CITL Small Group Instructional Diagnostics
This semester, the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning (CITL) will be conducting Small Group Instructional Diagnostics (SGID) from March 21-28th. A facilitator from the CITL will guide your students through a series of questions about your course which will be used to provide helpful feedback to improve your course prior to the end of the semester. Data Science League Presents a Talk with Dr. Rina Singh Thursday March 10th
Join the Data Science League this Thursday March 10th at 11 A.M. in Bruner Hall 327 to hear Dr. Rina Singh speak on Machine Learning and more! Financial institutes routinely use machine learning models for a broad range of activities, including credit risk management, regulatory compliance, and fraud detection. In this presentation, we will investigate how to build a simple NLP model for detecting fraud. We will explore simple improvements that can be made to our model and conclude with a discussion on model interpretability.

R101: Responsible Conduct of Research
Join the Office of Research in partnership with the Center for Advancing Faculty Excellence (CAFÉ) for the final session in our Research 101 series: Responsible Conduct in Research. Responsible Conduct in Research is simply good citizenship applied to professional life. Important shared values for the responsible conduct in research that bind all researchers together are honesty, accuracy, efficiency, and objectivity. This workshop will build on the already required CITI training and offer insights into some conflicting situations that arise during the conduct of research. I Heart Tech Students Spotlight: Whitson-Hester School of Nursing
The Whitson-Hester School of Nursing asks the Golden Eagle community to support the Nursing Student Scholarship and Nursing Student Emergency Fund. These scholarships and emergency funds reward the best and brightest prospective and current nursing students and allow the WHSON to step in and assist students who are experiencing financial hardships that threaten their journey to a nursing career. Arbor Day Art Contest!
The Office of Sustainability presents the Arbor Day Art Contest!
All students are invited to share their talents to help celebrate this years Arbor Day. We want to help students think about and appreciate the trees in their community by creating a piece that encapsulates that. Any kind of art is acceptable, but natural mediums are encouraged! Winners of the contest will receives prizes and all works will be showcased on campus at the end of March.
Submissions will be accepted from now until March 25th at 3pm. Physical submissions will be accepted at the Sustainability Office – 2nd floor of University Services. 845 N Dixie Ave. Digital submissions will be accepted via email at TTUGreen@tntech.edu.

iLearn Quizzes Part 2
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning for our next workshop session, iLearn Quizzes Part 2 on Tuesday, March 8th at 11 AM. During this session, Lauren will cover topics concerning the grading and management of quizzes once they have been taken. As well as issues that may occur, and how to fix them, such as incorrect answers selected for the questions, manually grading, resetting attempts, and more. Register below. Student Affairs Monthly Student Spotlight Announced
Tennessee Tech pre-dental student, Alex Stovall, admirably gives meaning to the title servant leader. When nominating Alex for this student spotlight, Mrs. Coonce says, “In Alex’s leadership positions, he is bold, fearless, confident, and kind.” Alex represents this affirmation through his position as the volunteer Hospitality Leader in the Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic, in which he recruits and hosts medical professionals and surpasses expectations through deeply caring for every volunteer present. Alex’s passion to serve others can also be seen in his involvement with Dr. Jesse Carrick’s research of materials to clean and recycle nuclear waste. Through his research, Alex has learned that “perseverance truly is the key to success.” He encourages students, “Find something you are truly passionate about and work to advance it. The results are not immediate, but with passion comes the perseverance necessary to succeed.” Thank you, Alex, for being an inspiration on campus.
