Eagle Works registration closes on Tuesday, March 30! Join students from programs across campus to compete for awards totaling $20,000. Eagle Works is a Shark Tank-style competition focusing on innovation & entrepreneurship, problem-solving, creative thinking, and teamwork!
The competition is open to all Tech students from all programs of study. Projects are due Wednesday, March 31 so don’t wait!

Call for EDGE QEP course grant applications with important changes for 2021-2022
EDGE: Enhanced Discovery through Guided Exploration is TTU’s Quality Enhancement Plan. Since 2015, the EDGE Creative Inquiry Course Grant Program has offered Faculty the opportunity to redesign undergraduate courses to include creative inquiry projects and assignments. Starting fall, 2021, the program will be opened to graduate classes as well. Additionally, the EDGE rubric is now an optional method of assessing student work – faculty may propose another method for assessment. The limit on individual course grants is $5,000. The limit on multiple-course curriculum grants is $15,000. April 5 is the application deadline.

Join the Center for Career Development on Thursday, Mar. 25, beginning at 11:00 a.m. in the Roaden University Center Multipurpose Room (2nd floor) for this Purple Career Readiness Workshop. Are you wondering what Career Ready means? Be sure to attend this workshop by Russ Coughenour, Director of the Center for Career Development, to learn how to market yourself as a Career Ready Graduate to employers.
This event is open to all students in all majors and counts towards the Purple Career Readiness Certificate for junior and senior students. Bring your Eagle Card for a quick sign-in.

CISE Grant Applications Due Friday, March 26
Creative Inquiry Summer Experience (CISE) grant applications are due Friday, March 26. Grants are for a maximum of $4,000 with up to $3,500 as a paid stipend. Fidan receives Kinslow award for best published paper on 3D printing research
Ismail Fidan, Ph.D. was honored with the Kinslow Engineering Research Award from the College of Engineering for the best paper published in a refereed professional journal.
Fidan’s winning article on research into additive manufacturing – or 3D printing – was conducted through the Center for Manufacturing Research, which was established at Tech in 1985. The article on, was published– An International Journal, volume 202, which was released August 2020.

Ghafoor recognized for excellence with Brown-Henderson award
Tech Computer Science Professor Sheikh Ghafoor has received the Brown-Henderson Outstanding Engineering Faculty Award by the College of Engineering for his accomplishments in preparing students through innovative courses, service, and research accomplishments.
Ghafoor has developed impactful courses and steered curriculum, in addition to securing external funding for research totaling $7.7 million – with Tech’s portion almost $4.7 million – from the National Science Foundation, NASA, the Department of Energy, the National Security Agency, and other sources.

Hawkins honored by faculty, students and industry partners
Wayne Hawkins received praise from students, faculty and industry partners to win the 2020-2021 Outstanding Staff Award from the College of Engineering for his work as manager of the Math and Materials Science Lab. He was recognized for the impact his knowledge, respect, and efficiency on the job have made to these groups.
Hawkins is also involved in the Governor’s School for Emerging Technologies, and Tech After Dark, for potential students to view areas of the College of Engineering they might not see on a regular campus tour.

Jorgensen is recognized for new course challenging the way students view ethics
Stephanie Jorgensen, has received the Leighton E. Sissom Innovation and Creativity Award from the College of Engineering. She was selected for her innovative redesign of a Chemical Engineering Process, Products, Ethics course, which students have described as “changing the way we think.”
“Engineering ethics became less of something we should do, and more of an actual ideology to follow through our lives and careers,” said Phoebe Dawson a recently graduated student who completed the new course. With the new format, topics are viewed and discussed through five different lenses: global, economic, societal, environmental, and societal impact.”

Crockett’s Braille models for computing concepts garner McCord Award
April Crockett has received the T.S. McCord Innovation and Techno-Entrepreneurship Award from the College of Engineering for her work on Braille modeling for computing, innovative course delivery, and diversity initiatives. Crockett is a lecturer in the Computer Science program at Tech, who has worked closely with visually impaired students to create models and diagrams in Braille to support better comprehension of computing concepts. She is passionate about improving education and expanding opportunities in this field for persons with disabilities and minority populations.

TTU Trombone Choir presents Distance Video Project
The TTU Trombone Choir is proud to present our spring distance video project with Center Stage Guest Steve Wiest. Wiest is a world renowned jazz trombonist, composer, arranger, and author. He collaborated with us to produce three videos. The first is “Funk This!” by Dr. Joshua Hauser and features members of the Trombone Choir and Dr. Colin Hill, drums. The second is “Flat Black,” by JJ Johnson, arranged by Wiest. The final composition is a new piece by Wiest that was commissioned for Trombones at Tech titled “Intergalactic Haus of Trombone.” Although the original intent was to have performed all of these live during Steve’s residency by our students, we felt that it was important to recognize the many professional musicians throughout the US who have been largely underemployed due to COVID and invited 6 professional trombonists from Nashville, Knoxville, Boston, and NYC to join us for this final selection. We hope that you enjoy these and we look forward to performing for you again live and in person soon!

French Conversation Hour
The next French conversation hour will take place on Thursday, March 25, from 5-6 pm in Oakley 214. All levels are welcome–from beginner to advanced. This is a great way to practice speaking French, and to meet other French speakers.
