Virtual reception for John Smith, Mentor of the Year Award
Join University Advancement in a virtual reception for John Smith, recipient of the 2021 CASE District III Mentor of the Year Award, on Wednesday, May 19 at 11 a.m. The CASE Mentor of the Year Award recognizes an individual who has made an impact on other advancement professionals through mentorship, and candidates are nominated by a mentee who has benefited directly from the personal and professional leadership of the mentor. Smith graduated from Tech with a bachelor’s degree in computer science and a master’s degree in business administration. He has held progressively-responsible positions since beginning his work in University Advancement as a graduate assistant in the 90s. CITL 2021 Summer Intensive
The CITL Summer Intensive is a two-day workshop experience open to all Tennessee Tech faculty. Day one will consist of four morning sessions that will unpack the 6 categories of the OLC Course Design Rubric, a break for lunch, and then breakout rooms in the afternoon where you can work one-on-one with the CITL staff. Day two will be similar, but focusing on infusing technology into your courses to promote interaction and engagement. The afternoon session will be centered around implementation and sharing ideas.

Parking Permit Information
Parking & Transportation Services is currently in the process of setting up a new parking management system. Because of this, permit sales for the 2021-2022 academic year will be delayed. Faculty, staff, and students can expect to begin purchasing permits late July, but detailed information will be sent out as it is available.

Food Pantry Summer Hours
The TN Tech Food Pantry will open on Wednesdays from 11am – 5pm in June and July this summer.
Until then our staff can meet, by appointment, for emergency situations. Please send us an email at foodpantry@tntech.edu
There is no need to register online for your summer visit(s) until June and July.
While we are shut down in May and in August, please take advantage of the Auxiliary Pantry in the library, behind the front desk. It is available during any hours the library is open. CLICK HERE to see their hours of operation.

OCM project submission deadline
The Office of Communications and Marketing has set the project submission deadline as June 17, 2021. This applies to Printing Services, Photo/Video Services and Creative Services. If you have projects that need to be paid for and completed before the end of fiscal year, please submit by June 17. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee the work will get completed in time to charge via IDT before the end of the fiscal year. If you have any questions, please email marketing@tntech.edu. CITL “So You Think You Can iLearn” Course Design Competition Winner
The Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning held the first annual “So You Think You Can iLearn” course design competition this year. The competition scored participants on their course design in iLearn based on the OLC Course Design Rubric. Participants from across campus submitted their iLearn courses and the CITL Team reviewed them to select a winner. The winner of the inaugural “So You Think You Can iLearn” competition is, Don Sowers!

CITL iLearn: Import/Export/Copy Course Components Workshop Session
The end of the semester is the time to prepare iLearn courses for copying components to the next semester’s courses. This process involves updating Master iLearn courses as well as cleaning up existing semester courses. In this session, we will discuss the exact procedures for adding, deleting, and modifying content topics, quizzes, assignments, discussions, and other iLearn components. The process of copying, exporting, and importing entire courses and between semesters will be explained in detail. As well as elaboration on the steps for selecting specific items to be copied as well as how to manage or offset start, end, and due dates.

REGISTRATION IS OPEN: Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School / FREE Program for Kids
Registration is open for the Elinor Ross CDF Freedom School – a free, six-week (June 9-July 20) literacy and cultural enrichment program for children K-4th/entering 1st-5th grades who qualify for free or reduced lunch.
Hosted by the College of Education, kids will engage in reading/literacy programs, science, art, math, and music activities, interactive field trips, and family/community events. Breakfast and lunch are provided each day. This year each child will also receive a bike and safety gear.
Members of the university community are encouraged to learn about this valuable program or register a child.

Hot Water Outage May 9-22
There will be no hot water or steam on campus May 9-22, 2021 during the annual steam system outage. Natural gas and electric water heaters will continue to operate at Tech Village, New Hall North, Southwest Hall, RUC (for food service only), Lab Science Commons, East Stadium, West Stadium, APC, Foundation Hall, Hooper Eblen and Fitness Center.
This outage is necessary to perform preventative maintenance, and is scheduled annually following spring commencement to minimize impact on other campus events.
