GOLDEN HELIX 5K HELIX 5K Oct. 24th-Nov. 7, 2020
Support the research and outreach activities of the TN Tech Chemistry and Biochemistry student organizations! ASBMB is hosting the Golden Helix 5K, and this annual race is a little different this year. Participants are able to complete the 5k from Oct. 24th-Nov. 7th, 2020. Sick Leave Bank Enrollment – Faculty & Staff
The annual enrollment period for Faculty and Non-Faculty Sick Leave Banks will be October 1 through October 31, 2020. If you are already a sick leave bank member, you do not need to re-enroll.
Please complete your enrollment form via DocuSign at Sick Leave Bank Form. Your form must be received by 4:30 pm on October 31, 2020. Please note that if you do wish to participate, the assessment will be fifteen (15.0) sick leave hours for full-time employees (prorated for permanent, part time). This will be deducted from your November Leave Report which will be turned in at the first of December.
NOTE: You may receive sick leave donations from other employees only if you are a sick bank member. Since the beginning of the program in 1989, there has not been a need to require more than the initial assessment of 15 hours for each full-time member.

Mask Design Contest – Dept. of Foreign Languages
Do you have a talent for design? Help Tech’s students show off their foreign language pride while staying safe on campus. Submit an internationally inspired design for a cloth face mask to languages@tntech.edu by Oct 23 for a chance to win. If the majority of students and club members in the Department of Foreign Languages select your design, you will win a Starbucks gift card and a free mask!

WTTU to Broadcast Live at Preview Days
Tech’s radio station, 88.5 – The Nest, will be broadcasting live this Friday and Saturday for Preview Days! Friday, we will be set up in the STEM Center from 1-3 p.m., and on Saturday we will be set in the Marc L Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center from 9-11 a.m. Be listening for Tech trivia and come by our booth and correctly answer questions for some cool swag and prizes. See you there!

LGBTQIA+ Support Group- Tonight!
Many LGBTQ+ individuals experience negative mental health issues due to the prejudice and other biases they face- even the act of coming out is surrounded by fear for many. In fact, research suggests that queer people experience mental health conditions at a rate almost 3 times higher than the general population.
Without mental health we cannot be healthy. It is our hope that LGBTQ+ individuals find this support group to be a safe outlet for them to discuss these challenges and find a sense of community online. We want LGBTQ+ students at Tech to not just make it through their time here, but to flourish- you are worthy of a full and free life.
This group is open to anyone who identifies anywhere on the LGBTQ+ spectrum, including those who don’t know what that means for them! Participants are welcome to come and be accepted as themselves.
This group meets every Thursday evening from 6:15-7:15 on zoom. Participants may choose to be public or anonymous in the zoom meeting. Please email sw-zsspoerl@tntech.edu for the zoom link.

Whitney O’Halek Talk Oct 06
Please join the Professional and Technical Communication Club and the English Club via Zoom on Tuesday, October 6th, at 11:00 a.m., as English/PTC alum Whitney O’Halek shares her self-publishing experience with us. Whitney will begin her presentation with details about publishing her novella series, as well as her travel blog, which was part of the inspiration for the series. Following the presentation, Whitney will be available to answer questions you might have about her self-publishing and entrepreneurship experiences. Join ASME & Amy Elliott
This Thursday, October 1 during dead hour in Brown 236 and 237, ASME will be hosting Amy Elliot as a guest speaker. Starring in 50+ episodes of the Science Channel’s “Outrageous Acts of Science” and runner up on The Discovery Channel’s “The Big Brain Theory,” Dr. Amy Elliott is a scientist on-camera and off. By day, Dr. Elliott is a research staff at Oak Ridge National Laboratory specializing in inkjet and photopolymer-based additive manufacturing technology. Her path to a science started with a passion for engineering in the TTU ME program followed by a revelation about what research was in her second year of grad school. Learn the “10 Reasons to 3D Print Something” as well as Dr. Elliott’s journey to a career in science with lots of fun pit stops (literally and figuratively) along the way.

Learn how Dr. Baidoo uses Data Science to answer business questions and watch a demonstration on determining which products are “joined together” using R.
