This is your last chance to sign up for the Eagle Works Idea Challenge! Register by Friday, Nov. 6 for your chance at a piece of $2,000 in prizes. Join us (virtually!) on Wednesday, Nov. 11 at 6 p.m. to pitch your best creative, innovative idea that would help solve a problem!
We are holding virtual practice on Wednesday, Nov. 4 and Monday, Nov. 9 before the competition. Check out the Eagle Works website at https://www.tntech.edu/eagleworks/ for more information, links to practice sessions, video of prior workshops, and to register!
Students can compete alone or in teams, and will have 90 seconds to pitch their idea – no PowerPoint, no Q&A. This is for ALL students in ALL programs! Your idea doesn’t need to be fully thought out, but it should be feasible and solve a problem. Get creative and think big! Multiple prizes will be awarded!

Faculty Spotlight: Dr. Norris Incorporates Rural Into Coursework
Rural Reimagined recognizes Dr. Lachelle Norris, Professor of Sociology, for integrating rural components into her coursework. Her Sociology of Appalachia class discusses grassroots economic development by highlighting Upper Cumberland businesses that value environmental and economic sustainability. The students also preserve and share rural traditions and practices on a class website devoted to this video project: https://www.sustainableappalachian.com/. In her Rural Sociology class, students work with local community members on a variety of projects in our rural areas. Both are upper-level electives available to all students. Dr. Norris states, “My goal is that my students will uncover the roots of the problems in our rural areas and come up with solutions that will not only provide temporary relief but that can make a difference for the long haul.” If you are incorporating rural into your coursework or research, email Kinsey Potter at sw-kbpotter@tntech.edu to share your story.

Interwoven: Monya Nikahd Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Fibers
In Monya Nikahd’s exhibition Interwoven, she weaves a picture of a warped time perspective, by manipulating an ancient craft to become relative in a digital society. Opening on Nov. 11 until the 24, you can view her exhibition in the front gallery at the Appalachian Center for Craft. The gallery hours are 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, and 12 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
“The loom, the old ancestor to the computer, has lived its life as a large component to the progression of humankind. My work is produced on this analog machine, using high thread counts, unconventional and thin materials, and weaving cryptic code-like patterns.”
Open for two weeks, you can catch a glimpse of the art of weaving as a ‘new media.’

Dr. Noei Presents in the CoE New Faculty Seminar Series

Are you an upcoming Fall 2020 Graduate who formally participated in the Cooperative Education Program on campus?

The cords are a gift from Mr. Greg Cook, an alumni of the Cooperative Education Program.
