Pantry Hours – Finals Week
The Campus Food Pantry will be open during finals week, but not its regular hours.
We will be open the following hours:

- Tuesday 10am – 1pm

- Wednesday 10am – 1pm
- Thursday 1pm – 5pm

After finals, we will only have the auxiliary pantry open until our volunteers are back in January.
The auxiliary pantry is located behind the front desk in the library and is available any hours that the library is open. Ask the front desk attendant to escort you back there.

Retirement Reception on 12/8 for David Mullinax, Director of the Fitness Center
On Tuesday, December 8th from 1:30 to 3pm there will be a retirement reception in the Marc L. Burnett Student Recreation and Fitness Center for the long-time Director, Mr. David Mullinax. Mr. Mullinax is leaving Tech after 29 years of service to the campus community. The reception will be in the lobby of the new fitness center, where he will welcome colleagues and friends. There will be individually wrapped cookies served, a guest book to sign, and a plaque presentation. Feel free to stop by and give your congrats and well wishes. Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Physics Advanced Laboratory Presentations
This week’s (virtual) Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will feature Dakota Bowser and Damien DeArmitt who will present some of their work from the Physics Department’s Advanced Laboratory class. Dakota will discuss his use of a spherical pendulum to measure a magnetic moment, and Damien will describe some applications of a Michelson Interferometer. The presentations will be this Friday, December 4th at 4pm. 2020 Holiday Payroll Deadlines
Please observe the following deadlines during the upcoming holiday season.
December Student and Temp payroll is on Thursday, December 10

- Extra Pay timesheets are due by 4:30 PM on Thursday, December 3

- November leave reports are due by Wednesday, December 2 (Approvals due Monday, December 7)

- All other payroll items normally due on the 15th are due on Monday, December 7
-
- December monthly payroll is on Wednesday, December 23
- Any checks not picked up will be mailed at 3:30 on December 23
January Deadlines
Timesheets for work done in December by student and temporary hourly employees may be approved as soon as December work is finished. Any times not approved before the holiday break will be due by 11:00 AM on January 4, 2021.

Attention GAs: Tax implications on graduate assistantship
Each year, the Office of Graduate Studies and the Office of Financial Aid send a listing of the annual tuition benefits paid on your behalf to the Office of Human Resources. For some assistantships the amount will be added to the taxable income on your December 23rd paycheck and will increase your tax liability and possibly your federal income tax deduction. This amount does not increase your net pay.
If you want to change your W-4 to prevent or lessen the withholding amount, the form is here. This form must be returned to the Payroll Office by 4:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 4, to process on the 12/23/20 paycheck.

Here is an explanation of how the IRS treats assistantships:
Tuition benefits offered to graduate assistants are generally excluded from taxable income under section 117(d) of the Internal Revenue Code (IRC). However, section 117(d) only excludes from taxable income tuition benefits for graduate students who are engaged in teaching activities or research activities at the University. Graduate assistants not engaged in such teaching or research activities at the University cannot be excluded from taxable income under section 117(d).

Complete this simple process by Sunday, January 10, 2021, to ensure your election is recorded prior to the release of 2020 W-2s.

Cyber Eagles Meeting with Twitter CISO
The CyberEagles are very excited to announce that Rinki Sethi, the Chief Information Security Officer of Twitter, will be joining us for our final meeting of the semester on December 3rd at 11am.
She will be discussing her background in cyber and her experience as a leader in the industry. She has also worked in various roles at companies including IBM, Palo Alto Networks, Intuit, eBay, and Walmart.

Wilma Carr scholarship applications are being accepted for the 2021-2022 award year through Dec. 15. Qualified applicants are current students who are survivors of domestic violence, child abuse or a similar unfortunate situation and are in good standing with the university. Blue Cross Bowl to affect parking, traffic
We will welcome hundreds of high school students plus their families and friends again this year as we host the TSSAA Blue Cross Bowl state championship football games.
Our campus will host games on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Dec. 3 through Saturday, Dec. 5, at Tucker Stadium. Games will be held at 11 a.m., 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. each of the three days. Friday games are expected to bring the most weekday visitors to campus.
The parking lots near Tucker Stadium, Volpe Library, Bryan Fine Arts and Johnson Hall will be barricaded and reserved for championship visitors who pay to park in this area. All other parking lots will remain open for faculty, staff and students based on hangtags and will be first come, first served. This year, we anticipate ample parking availability for faculty, staff and students due to the decreased number of people travelling to campus each day.
TSSAA volunteer parking teams will be monitoring lots and collecting money from visitors paying to park in dedicated campus lots.
