CITL Summer Book Club: Teaching with AI
The CITL will kick off the Summer Series on Tuesday, June 4, 2024, as we begin reading Teaching with AI: A Practical Guide to A New Era of Human Learning by José Antonio Bowen and C. Edward Watson. We will meet virtually on Tuesdays, wrapping up the series on August 6, 2024. Together, we will learn and discuss some practical ways to integrate AI into teaching and learning environments. Consolidus, LLC, one of the university’s contracted licensed vendors, is now in Eagle Buy with a punch-out catalog. Departments and offices can now use this system to directly place orders with this vendor. This catalog system can show you merchandise already branded with the Tennessee Tech name and logos. OCM/Printing Services End of Year Deadline
The Office of Communications and Marketing has set the project submission deadline as June 14, 2024. This applies to Web and Digital Media requests, Printing Services requests, Photo/Video Services requests, and Creative Services requests. If you have projects that need to be paid for and completed before the end of fiscal year, please submit by June 14. Otherwise, we cannot guarantee the work will get completed in time to charge via IDT before the end of the fiscal year.

College of Education Appreciates Regional School Districts
Recently, representatives of Tech’s College of Education visited schools and central offices in Clay and Pickett Counties. These visits are part of the college’s annual celebration and recognition of teachers/educational professionals.
“We delivered padfolios and cakes decorated with “We Appreciate You” to each of the schools and offices,” said Lisa Zagumny, Dean. “It’s essential to recognize and thank those who give so much of themselves through their dedication to and passion for educating Tennessee’s students.”

Nursing Faculty to Provide Pediatric Critical Care Training in Beliz
This week Prof. Melissa Geist and Assoc. Prof. Jennifer Mabry of Tech’s Whitson-Hester School of Nursing will return to Belize in Central America.
May’s health outreach initiative focuses on Pediatric Critical Care Training for area health professionals (American Heart Association Certified). The trip follows their Dec. ‘23 Adult Critical Care program.
“I appreciate the efforts of Bobby Taylor in University Advancement and our generous donor who made this and December’s outreach trip possible,” said Geist. “The Cookeville-based company, STAT CPR is continuing to provide staff and equipment for delivering the training.”

Professional Privilege Tax 2024
Under TCA 67-4-1709, the professional privilege tax is due June 1 each year for individuals actively licensed or registered to practice in Tennessee for the following professions:
Attorney
Agent(Securities)
Broker-Dealer
Investment Adviser
LobbyistFor those so licensed, Tennessee Tech University will remit this for you. The amount of tax will be included as additional compensation on each affected employee’s W-2. If you are registered or licensed to practice in more than one of the following professions, you are only required to pay the $400 tax once per year.
Please provide the names and professions of anyone in your area of responsibility to me at dagee@tntech.edu or Jenni Roberts at jaroberts@tntech.edu at your earliest convenience, but not later than May 17, 2024. I will compile a master list to transmit to the State.

Employee Celebration on Wednesday
We are celebrating the end of a successful academic year and the collective contributions of our employees that made it possible. We want to celebrate you, so we hope you will join us on Wednesday, May 8th, from 11am – 2pm. Festivities will be held rain or shine on Centennial Plaza and in the Tech Pride Room of the RUC.
The event will include a dunk tank, lots of fun games with chances to win prizes like gift cards and Dollywood tickets, a complimentary picnic-style lunch, and a Tech’s Got Talent show.
