2022 Holiday Payroll Deadlines
Please observe the following deadlines during the upcoming holiday season.November Deadlines
• All clerical/staff remember to add your extra holiday, Nov 23rd, on your leave reports
• November monthly payroll is on Wednesday, November 30thDecember Deadlines
• Approval of Student/Temp payroll in Time Clock Plus is due by 12:00 P.M. on Thursday, December 1st
• November leave reports are due by Friday, December 2nd (Approvals due Tuesday, December 6th)
• Extra Pay timesheets are due by 4:30 PM on Monday, December 5th
• December Student and Temp payroll is on Friday, December 9th
• All other payroll items normally due on the 15th are due on Friday, December 9th
• December monthly payroll is on Thursday, December 22nd
• Any checks not picked up will be mailed at noon on December 22ndJanuary Deadlines
• Approval of Student/Temp payroll in Time Clock Plus is due by 10:00 A.M. on Tuesday, January 3, 2023.
• Time for December in TCP should be approved thru Dec 22nd before break. This will ensure quicker turnaround of payroll. -
Faculty Grant Program Application Approaching Deadline
The Center for Rural Innovation is excited to remind you that the Rural Reimagined Grand Challenge Faculty Grant application deadline is approaching, Friday, December 2nd, 2022, at 4:30 PM CST. The Grand Challenge Faculty Program will be granting $150,000 to TN Tech faculty members to help fund rural-related projects! We are anticipating your proposals and look forward to hearing your vision for our rural communities! Engagement Strategies (Replay)
Join the Center for Innovation in Teaching and Learning on Tuesday, November 22nd at 11 AM for a replay of our Engagement Strategies workshop. In this session, we explore increasing attendance by designing for student interaction with the instructor, the content, and with one another. We will discuss including participation as a graded item, activities that encourage student motivation, and creating a welcoming classroom culture and environment. Southeast Tourism Society Elects Andrea Kruszka to Board of Directors
TCRI (Tennessee Center for Rural Innovation) staff member, Andrea Kruszka, has been elected to the Southeastern Tourism Society’s Board of Directors. She will be working to promote the organization’s mission and vision by serving on one of the planning committees that support the four pillars of the organization. She says, “I’m honored to be elected as one of the Tennessee representatives on the board and look forward to using my knowledge of higher education to explore new partnerships between STS and the higher learning institutions in the service area.” She plans to aid TCRI in establishing companies and building economic development by obtaining her Travel Marketing Professional certification with the STS. Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Luke Parsons, TTU Physics
This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will feature work from Physics major Luke Parsons. In his talk Data Analysis of Neutron Capture on 134Xe, Luke will describe his work analyzing gamma ray spectra that provide important information needed to eliminate backgrounds in very sensitive experiments designed to better understand a fundamental particle called the neutrino. Luke will also talk about how germanium detectors, like those used to collect his data, are made and characterized. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210. (Snacks will be served starting at 3:30pm.) These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are encouraged to attend!

Hot Chocolate Reindeer Pre-Sale Fundraiser Nov 14-18
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be pre-selling Hot Chocolate Reindeer (hot chocolate mix and marshmallows- each reindeer makes approximately three cups of hot chocolate) through our Square Store from Nov 14-18. We will deliver them to your Tech mailbox (for students) or office (for faculty and staff) on Dec 1. One reindeer is $2 or you can buy 3 for $5. Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) workshop on Nov 22
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society will be hosting a REU workshop on Tuesday, Nov 22 at 11 a.m. in SLH 126. REUs are summer research opportunities where students get paid to conduct original research for 10 weeks in the summer at universities around the country. Three students that participated in National Science Foundation funded REUs in Summer 2022 will present on what REUs are, how to find and apply to these programs, the benefits of participating in these programs, as well as their experiences. The workshop is open to all majors. Pizza and drinks will be provided, so please complete the RSVP form by Nov 20 if you plan to attend so we have a headcount for the food. Rotaract Club Meeting Thursday 11/17
- Hey guys! The Tennessee Tech Rotaract Club is having its next to last meeting of the semester on Thursday during dead hour. It will be held in its usual location, which is TJ Farr Room 203. We are encouraging everyone to come and hang out with us as we are preparing for an end to this semester. In this meeting, we will discuss Eagle Engage as well as a special opportunity we take part in almost every year we are able. We will have some kind of food available to you as well. ASME Student Section Meeting feat. Vincent Guilliams Jr.

This week, we are hosting Vincent Guilliams Jr., a two-time Tennessee Tech graduate and mechanical engineer from Oak Ridge National Laboratories who is working on the US ITER team, which is part of an international collaboration to create the world’s first functional nuclear fusion reactor! Come listen to his fascinating work and learn more about nuclear engineering and what it’s like to work at Oak Ridge.

Tech ASPIRES and Sociology and Criminal Justice Club Presenting: Movie Night
Tech ASPIRES and Sociology and Criminal Justice Club are hosting a movie night! We will be watching Wind River which is about a veteran hunter who helps an FBI agent investigate the murder of a young Native American woman on a Wyoming Native American reservation.
When: November 15th (Tuesday)
Time: 6:30 pm
Where: Bell Hall Auditorium
This event is free for anyone who is interested in learning and talking about domestic violence among Indigenous women. There will be free popcorn, soda, and cotton candy!

Carrick Receives Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar Award
Dr. Jesse Carrick has been named a Henry Dreyfus Teacher-Scholar. The award is based on accomplishment in scholarly research with undergraduates, as well as a compelling commitment to teaching, and provides an unrestricted research grant of $75,000. Carrick is one of only 8 nation-wide to receive this award. Nominees must be engaged in research and teaching primarily with undergraduates. Institutions may submit only one Henry Dreyfus nomination annually.
Carrick’s research is entitled, “Synthetic Approaches to Minor Actinide Separations from Lanthanides Contained within Spent Nuclear Fuel.”
The Camille & Henry Dreyfus Foundation is dedicated to the advancement of the chemical sciences. Established in 1946 by chemist, inventor, and businessman Camille Dreyfus as a memorial to his brother Henry, the Foundation became a memorial to both men when Camille Dreyfus died in 1956. Throughout its history the Foundation has sought to take the lead in identifying and addressing needs and opportunities in the chemical sciences through a series of programs and awards.

Masquerade on November 18th
Join us on Friday, November 18th at 7:00pm for the Swing Dance Club Masquerade! We will be meeting in the Dance Studio of the Memorial Gym for an evening of swing and other ballroom dances.
