Tech Nursing Students Travel to Belize in December
Professor Melissa Geist has led more than 10 nursing-training outreach visits to Belize, a country on Central America’s northeast coast. Next month she and Associate Professor Jennifer Mabry will lead a group of graduate and undergraduate students to the village of Punta Gorda continuing these valuable hands-on clinical experiences.
In partnership with the local hospital, students will work in the areas of emergency medicine, surgery, and obstetrics. Undergraduates will be paired with grad students as they interact with the staff and patients. The group will also visit an orphanage providing wellness checks, hearing/vision screenings, and vaccinations for the children.
This clinical outreach trip includes assistance from a Cookeville-based firm, START CPR (safety techniques and response training), offering Advanced Cardiac Life Support training for 20 of the local healthcare providers.

Pre-sale for hot chocolate reindeer extended through Nov 27!
The Student Members of the American Chemical Society is extending the Hot Chocolate Reindeer (hot chocolate mix and marshmallows- each reindeer makes approximately three cups of hot chocolate) pre-sale through Nov 27! You can order through our Square Store through Nov 27. We will deliver them to a Tech mailbox (for students) or office (for faculty and staff) on Nov 30 or Dec 1. One reindeer is $2 or you can buy 3 for $5. You will be contacted via email after you order to determine your delivery location. Any questions can be sent to smacsttu@gmail.com. These make cute gifts, so consider ordering for yourself or for someone else. We can deliver your order to other people on campus if you want to send some end of the semester cheer!

2026-2031 QEP Topic Selection Survey Results
As a key step in shaping our 2026-2031 Quality Enhancement Plan, we recently carried out a survey with faculty, staff, and students. The survey featured twelve potential topics, inviting participants to choose and rank their top eight in order of importance. On this day of giving, Tennessee Tech will highlight a campus tradition that has promoted free speech, shared campus news, provided experiential learning opportunities and served as a written record of university history for nearly 100 years.

“Waking Up”: Abby Ramaker Senior Thesis Exhibition
Senior Thesis Exhibition for Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting
Join Abby Ramaker, at the opening of her senior thesis exhibition of oil painting. The exhibition is Dec. 1 – 8, 2023, in the Bryan Fine Arts Building at Tennessee Tech University. Artist reception on Dec. 7, from 5:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Abby’s body of work explores the transformations we go through as people and the light we discover within and around us during those times of change. To her, painting is a language that can translate emotions that cannot be expressed any other way. This exhibition speaks to the resiliency of the spirit within oneself to guide them through dark times. “It’s about hope, rebirth, and ultimately healing.”

CITL Campus Pulse Fall 2023

Tuesday, November 21st, is the FINAL DAY to submit your Career Readiness Application for the Fall 2023 semester. All materials for Gold and Purple Career Readiness Applications MUST be turned in to the Center for Career Development (RUC 328), in-person to RUC 328, via email to career@tntech.edu, or online at https://www.tntech.edu/career/students/career-ready.php by 8 am on Tuesday, November 21.

Author Silas House to Speak on November 30
Center Stage welcomes author Silas House to campus at 7 p.m. Thursday, November 30 in the Backdoor Playhouse. He will talk about the current cultural context as seen through the characters of his two recent novels, Southernmost and Lark Ascending, read from his works, and answer questions. House is a former commentator for NPR’s “All Things Considered.” His writing has appeared recently in Time, The Atlantic, Ecotone, and Oxford American. For questions, contact athurmond@tntech.edu

20th annual Festival of Student Writing

RUC Multipurpose Room (2nd floor)The annual Festival of Student Writing is back—for the twentieth time! This lively and popular event features hundreds of projects created by students in English Composition classes (ENGL 1010 and 1020), who display and discuss their work at various booths and tables. For these projects, participating composition instructors encourage their students to adapt their writing and research to create projects other than traditional essays. Visitors may expect to see posters, exhibits, brochures, multimedia presentations, and performances about a wide range of subjects. Human Resources Organizational Changes
The Human Resources Department is excited to announce some organizational changes for your awareness.
Ali Sparkman has been promoted to the Employee Relations Specialist position. Ali will provide guidance and direction on various employee relations issues, including performance management, conflict resolution, policy interpretation, HR investigations, and other employment issues.
Please welcome Loren Bowman, who has been hired as an HR Generalist. Loren’s primary responsibilities are focused on recruiting, employment, onboarding, and general HR matters.

Bobby Taylor named Associate Athletic Director for Development
Bobby Taylor has been named the new Associate Athletic Director of Development for Tennessee Tech.
In 2019, he joined Tech’s University Development team where he focused on fundraising for the College of Business, College of Interdisciplinary Studies and Whitson-Hester School of Nursing.
Prior to his employment with the university, Bobby worked for Service Transport, Inc., Averitt Express and Takeda Pharmaceuticals. During his time with Takeda, he earned numerous sales awards including the Cresset Award in 2010 (number two in the nation) and the Silver Award in 2016 (top 20%).
Bobby holds a degree in business administration from Tech.
