    Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar: Caleb Eldridge, Joel Watson, Ethan White

    This week’s Undergraduate STEM Research Seminar will be given by TTU physics majors Caleb Eldridge, Joel Watson, and Ethan White who this past summer traveled to Taiwan for six weeks to participate in the PIRE-GEMADARC program. In their talk A Summer Research Experience in Taiwan, Caleb, Joel, and Ethan will describe their experiences in Taiwan as well as the individual research projects they tackled as part of the program. The seminar will be this Friday at 4pm in Bruner Hall 210 with snacks served starting at 3:30pm. These seminars are geared for undergraduates from any STEM major, but graduate students and faculty are also encouraged to attend! (And if you are an undergraduate researcher at TTU who would like to talk about your research as part of this seminar series, send an email to Dr. Holley.)

    Joshua Leonard: The Art of Diversity

    Join Intercultural Affairs and the School of Art, Craft & Design as they host Illustrator Joshua Leonard on Monday, October 16 at 6 pm in Derryberry Auditorium.

    Joshua Leonard is an illustrator, concept artist, character designer, and traditional 2D animator, specializing in creating compelling, inclusive, and diverse characters that are often underrepresented while also creating relatable stories. His focus on disabilities, neurodiversity, and representation has had a significant positive impact on youth around the world. He graduated top of his class from the Art Institute of Atlanta with a 4.0 GPA and a degree in Media Arts & Animation.

    He’s done illustration work for major companies including Netflix, Nickelodeon, Sony Immersive, Jim Henson Company, Hillman Grad Productions, 9 Story, Baobab Studios, and Disney. His greatest work is his creation, Team Supreme, which is about a group of young superheroes who each have intellectual or physical disabilities that are their superpowers.     Course Evaluation Information Session with IARE – October 27

    Get the most out of your course evaluation reports. The Office of Institutional Assessment, Research, & Effectiveness (IARE) will be hosting a session on the University’s course evaluation process. This session will provide an overview of the evaluation tool known as IDEA and the role of instructors in selecting the Student Learning Objectives most appropriate for their courses. When instructors select the most relevant objectives for their courses, course reports provide a better evaluation for what occurs in the classroom. Best practices will also be shared for garnering student participation and good response rates. Join us for this online training session on Friday, October 27th at 12PM.

    Partial Solar Eclipse Viewing Party October 14!

    The Physics Department would like to invite you to the viewing of the Annular Solar Eclipse on October 14th, 2023. Cookeville will be getting a partial (about 50%) eclipse during this time. Weather permitting, the viewing will take place on the Lab Science Commons (LSC) Lawn from 10 am to 2 pm. There will be eclipse glasses provided until supplies last and we will be making pinhole viewers.     Apply for Next Year’s Scholarships by December 15

    The general scholarship application for the 2024-2025 academic year is available now through Friday, Dec. 15, 2023. All students must complete this application in order to be eligible for over 700 Tennessee Tech scholarships for the Fall 2024, Spring 2025, and Summer 2025 terms.

    If you have a renewable departmental scholarship, you have to re-apply every year in order for that scholarship to be renewed!
